It was easy to predict what you needed to make the playoffs till now. 94 was a great guess.

How many points will be needed to make the wild card slot? 88?

Thoughts ?

Looking back at how the league use to be in 90s and before (similar format) teams got as low as 77-84 points to get in. But that was a time of Ties as well. So add in a good 10 points or so. I say 87/88 is a solid guess.

I still think it'll be around 94, but does anyone else think 5 teams from the Atlantic are getting in? I can't see a metro team getting a wildcard.

Explain the playoff format. Do 4 teams from each division make it, is that how it works?

Five of the teams in the Atlantic made it last season. It's the only division with that many. I could see it happening again with the Bruins, Red Wings, and Sens as locks and the Leafs or Habs being bubble teams. If the Panthers stay healthy, I could see them as possibly a bubble team as well along with the Lightning. The Sabres are the only team I'm counting completely out.

I could see any of the teams in the Metropolitan making the playoffs. I'm not so sure about the Devils though. I'd say the Pens and Rangers are locks. I still can't believe the Flyers didn't make it last season, but I can never count them out. The Caps likely will, although I think they're very overrated by the media. I'd consider the Islanders, Canes, and Jackets as bubble teams.

The Metro division is tougher than the Atlantic. No way 5 Atlantic teams get in. Who are you thinking get in?

You really think the Metro is tougher? With noted powerhouse teams New Jersey Columbus, Islanders, Hurricanes, and Flyers? I can easily see Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, Detroit, and one of Montreal, Florida and TB getting in. The general consensus on the main boards and TSN was that the Atlantic was the toughest division in hockey. That doesn't mean it's true, but I actually agree with them for once.

Well, the old Atlantic Division was the toughest in the league for a decade, and I think it's still very tough. How would it go to hell in one year? I don't know why some people think the Devils are going to be bad. They acquired Schneider which solves their goaltending questions. With him and Marty, they are very solid in net. They have an average but capable D. They have a lot of good forwards. How are they a bad team?

The Isles are a bubble team, with lots of promising youth and should be a team on the rise just like us over the next few years. The Jackets are a bubble team, with a Vezina Winner and are building a terrific blueline. The Flyers, who knows, they could be bad, but they could be a playoff team also if they get adequate goaltending.

TB is not making the playoffs this season. They have no defense. I think they'll be last in our division. We could make the playoffs, but it would have to be a dream season and everything would have to go right for us. Toronto and Montreal are bubble teams, alright but nothing special. Montreal had a dream season, they are not really that good. The Rangers and Penguins are two of the top teams in the league. Boston is too, but then IMO there's a dropoff. Detroit and Ottawa should be playoff teams, but I wouldn't consider them top teams. I think the Atlantic will have more bottomfeeders than the Metro.
