How many NHL stars have finished their career as Rangers?

Out of all those player Bure was the only one that still had some in the tank when he joined the club.

Shame the knees didnt agree

Straka's PPG was better as a ranger as was nylander's (although he didn't retire here), drury's was worse.

OT, but holik's PPG was better as a ranger, gomez scored at 0.81 PPG while here and Tom Poti scored at a better PPG as a ranger than Roszival

Lindros was having a bit of a renaissance with the Rangers when he joined the club in 2001/02. The Fleury Lindros York (FLY) Line was leading the way and there was talk of a potential Rangers/Islanders conference final as early as December. Then New Years came and the Rangers lose 6 in a row. They never regrouped.

I thought this would be a fun thread to make and I'll add as we. So how many stars finished out their careers as Rangers. The players who qualify had to be considered a star at their time. Consecutive successful seasons and/or at least one all star appearance.

W. Gretzky
M. Messier
P. Bure
R. Gilbert
S. Larmer
C. Drury
M. Dionne
P. Lafontaine
B. Cook
F. Boucher
J. Davidson
D. Kerr
W.Tkaczuk
R. Greschner
M. Straka
P. Esposito
B. Geoffrion
H. Morenz
T. Sawchuk
M. Naslund
P. Larouche

Should I put their NHL career stats and how they did with the Rangers? lol

Howie Morenz did not end his career as a Ranger. He was traded to the Rangers on January 26th, 1936 and played nineteen games for them, scoring two goals and five assists. He was then rehired by the Canadiens in September, 1936 and played thirty games (scoring four goals and sixteen assists) before he an Earl Siebert got tangled up along the boards of the old Forum in January 1937 and he broke his leg in four places. He suffered a nervous breakdown and at least one heart attack during his recovery before he finally passed away in March of that year.

Sincerely,
Your friendly neighbourhood Habs fan...

Everyone missed one.

Bobby Hull played in 1981 pre-season for Rangers (he did not make the team).
He was brought to camp presumably to re-kindle magic with Nilsson and Hedberg.

He never played a regular season game, but the last NHL sweater he wore was that of the Rangers.

Ten of the top 30 all time scorers in the NHL played for the Rangers (5 of the top 10)

Good trivia question to try to get them all without peeking.

Gretzky
Messier
Gartner
Espo
Jagr

Did that without looking. People always forget how many goals Gartner compiled over the course of his career.

10 of top 30 is harder. Kurri has gotta be there. Robitaille too. Lafleur had a short stint with the Rangers. Shanahan I think. Who is the 10th?

Edit: Looked. Forgot about Dionne.

i had no idea. that's neat. i'm very surprised they wouldn't have given him at least a 'cup of coffee'. a shame. i love this kind of trivia.

Trivia: Who was the last Rangers draft pick to have 2+ 30 goal seasons with the Rangers?

Henrik Lundqvist says hello.

yeah, fair enough. anyhow, they haven't grown many. and i don't know the last star forward they developed. i don't really consider kovalev a superstar. they do well with mid-level, solid nhl-ers but the superstars are few-and-far-between.

Was that the year Fleury went into rehab?

they do, indeed. they haven't grown a superstar since leetch, i'd say.

I guess it's a bit harder when we never have a top10 pick. Despite that, we could have had better players if we would draft a bit more offensive talent rather than focusing on D all the time.

So this is the complete list of Rangers' draftees who had 2+ 30 goal seasons with the Rangers:

Amonte: 92/93
Turcotte: 90/92
Sandstrom:87/89
Johnstone: 81/82
Hickey: 78/79
Vickers: 73/74/75/76

I'm excluding pre-modern era players who weren't "drafted" per se, like Gilbert, Bathgate, Cook, Ratelle, Balon and Henry. Also excluding Anders Hedberg, who came over as a free agent.

I guess it's a bit harder when we never have a top10 pick.

That's an easy excuse. Off the top of my head, Giroux, Getzlaf, Perry, M. Richards, Parise, Kesler, Kopitar, Pacioretty, Karlsson, Carlson and Semin weren't drafted in the top 10 and Lucic, Bergeron, Sharp, Letang, Datsyuk, Erikkson and Zetterberg weren't even first round picks.
