How Long Till We Recognize How Fortunate We Are To Make Back to Back Cup Finals?

When will Oilers posters be "happy" again?

Another helluva run, but met a better team again. They were out-everythinged this series. Out coached (Maurice knows how to neutralize McD & Drai), out-power played, out-penalty killed, out-hit, and the biggest factor (aside from horrendous reffing, but that’s a given): out-goalied.

Fortunate to be there? Absolutely. But, being first runner-up means you still lost at the finish line.

I haven't followed Marchant for most of his career. Was he always as mean mouthed as he appears to be in the Panther's celebrations?

Third times the charm.

I think the disappointment is all in the expectations. When you are gifted the top 2 players in the world and they've been here for 10 years and finally just made a cup final last year, that seems a long time to wait for that kind of success. And having management constantly fail them by not providing either proper support players, or failing to address the constant goaltending issue. And I think they took a pretty deep step back this year, which the domination by Florida showed us. We became a very old, and much slower team, and that was born out in the finals where a much younger, speedier and aggressive team was all over us. Ask yourself this question. How do you think the fans in Pittsburgh would have felt if after 10 years, Sid and Geno had zero cups? Pretty sure whey wouldn't be satisfied and happy having generational players and having a couple years as also-rans. There is unfinished business here and until that happens, you can call us out for acting like Bills fans.
Management is still going to fail them. They are absolute idiots running this team. Year end press conference leads me to beleive these bums will jettison Pickard, and keep Skinner.

Let go of Kane, but sign Frederic to an 8 year 4 mill contract. Fn useless in the playoffs and nowhere near as tough as Kane

Keep Stecher but jettison Klingberg

Building a team to rely on 2 guys and not building a team to beat Florida.

Man I cannot f***ing wait for this teams downfall

did Kucherov have a T-shirt about how much over they cap they were when they won?
these Florida teams spit in the face of the NHL rules and Gary couldn't care less
(I know cap circumvention isn't technically illegal but still)

just an embarrassing league and cucks for these sunbelt teams

When we win a Cup. It's not acceptable to be the last bridesmaid when you have McDavid Draisaitl and now Bouchard too putting up 9 of the most dominant postseason performances of any player ever these past 3 years. All because our single digit IQ GM Ken Holland can't identify talent to save his life and saddled us with trash contract after trash contract and trash player after trash player, then sat back and waited for 3 players unrelated to him carry the team. Ditto to Jeff Jackson for throwing away two of the only good pieces on the team in Holloway and Broberg to sign a bunch of useless leech veterans who should never see an Oilers jersey again.

People that act as if Panthers are some kind of devil spawn team clearly never watched the Broadstreet Bullies.

Indeed hockey has mostly become such a milquetoast sport compared to what it used to be that theres probably not gonna be many Tkachuks, Bennetts, Kanes, Marchands around.

Myself I don't mind that theres still some players that play with a kind of fire and even cheating as part of that. Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, they cheated. Stinky elbows all day every shift. Its what Hockey is. but now its being taken over by a bunch of Bedards that Cry if Perry dates their mom.

For the most part I credit that none of the Oilers, not one, complain that they lost because of dirty play. To a player they are saying they lost to a pretty damned good team. I respect McD, Drai, several others taking that tact.

Its everybodies option but complaining about dirty is something about not accepting the better club won.

The Panthers were not first order thugs. They're filthy talent and a responsible dedicated team that have perfected their game with a near perfect roster to carry it out and are enjoying the ridiculously hard work its taken for them to get a SC threepeat and winning 2 times. Let em. Best team this millennium.

Finishing second means you didn't win. May as well have finished 32nd.

I get that this an emotional post and fans are angry. This just sounds like the kind of nonsense flamesnation is spewing. Could you imagine how embarrassing finishing last in the NHL would be with McDrai?

Essentially what is happening outside of Edmonton is that 30 other teams are jealous of where we are at. Media and haters from other fan bases find solace in beating us down to their level (even though were the second best team).

Glenn Anderson 1990. We f***ing destroyed the Bruins, f***ing destroyed them. Laughing at the Bruins team the whole time. I didn't mind it then or now. It takes balls to be that way because you know you'll be facing the clubs and players again for years and they take numbers. Champions aren't always magnanimous in Victory. Doesn't really bother me.

Plus last time I checked we don't live in an era of good grace.

Edmonton proved they aren't a 2 man team. They arent a 3 man team either. This just sounds like the trolling from panthers to try and get in McDavids head.

Nuge put 100 points and dominated Dallas. He was playing with a broken hand. Hyman lead the playoffs with hits and scored 50 in this league.

Oilers need to keep building but the biggest difference in the finals IMO was the panthers 3rd line. Adding Marchand was massive and he wasn't coming to play here in Edmonton

Nuge had 47pts this season. We only had two forwards with as many as 50pts.

It wasn't just Marchand. AS McD said Panthers had 8 players with 20pts in playoffs (he exaggerated slightly.) but we had 3 and Nuge wasn't that by the Final. If you're McD or Drai on this team you can still feel like all the weight is on you every game and you even get that expressed here from the fans.

In Florida you can just have alternate stars filling the net. Tkachuk was just ordinary. Barkov and Reinhart didn't get a thing early in series. It was all Marchand and Bennett and then even Bennett disappeared last couple games and it didn't matter. Its a real topnine and all those lines can fill the net.

The panthers kicked out butts in the finals but lets not pretend that they weren't a team that exceeded expectations.

Several players had performances that werent expected. Adding Marchand completely changed the panthers and transformed that 3rd line.

-Luostarinen had 24 points this regular season but went to a whole other level with 19 in the playoffs.

-Sam Reinhart had 13 points going into the finals before putting up 10 on us. He definitely padded his stats in those blowouts.

- Verhaeghe put up 9 points on us after a 53 point season.

-Bennett who had a career best 51 points had 10 points in the finals alone.

I dont think those performances are sustainable. They want to think their team has like 100 stars because they were a wagon. Edmonton legality had half their lineup injured.

What’s sustainable doesn’t matter in the playoffs. Every series is a brand new race to 4 where either score or you don’t. Win or you don’t.
