Speculation: How long can this go on?

A lot longer than any of us want to think.

Does anyone think ownership is going to change directions before Kopi’s farewell season? Next season will surely be another “go for it” year this time with a 39-year-old Kopi and 36-year-old Doughty.

The next year is Doughty’s final contract year. Does anyone think ownership won’t mandate that Drew retire as a King and that they “owe” it to him to be competitive in his final year?

I think we’re looking at 2027 at the earliest before we see any changes in organizational philosophy.

The good news is there’s a chance that in 2027 maybe McDavid won’t be on the Oilers anymore so we can actually take them to 7 games in the sixth consecutive 1st round loss to them.

You know it’s going to be

“they got the right bounces”
“I’m not going to let him go because of some challenge”
“We are going to dig deep and get a full off season with Hiller and come back stronger”

Herrp derp derpity doo

The team has made the playoffs 4 years in a row, the team is profitable and has one of the highest valuations in the league. From a business standpoint they're doing their jobs.

From a sports standpoint, they've lost to the same team in the first round 4 years in a row, they've failed to improve and thus aren't doing their job.

The sports fan in me says they're done, the pessimist in me says AEG keeps them around so long as the teams in the green.

Genuinely don't know where you go from here. Everything was pointing towards us this series. Secured home ice, solid season, better goalie. And yet the results are still the same.

I’m really not liking with what I am seeing from Byfield. I don’t know if it’s because of Kopitars spinelessness that seems to be rubbing off on everyone except Kempe.

One things for sure, Kopitar and Doughty must be let go.they have had their time in the sun. All the Mount Rushmore shit of the LA kings is cute. They will get a nice watch when their jerseys go to the rafters. Until then, they can f*** off to another team or retire. They’re useless bums who haven’t had the balls to lead a team nor the respect for their team to tell the coach that they need a lesser role. It’s been time for someone else to get their time in the sun and believe it or not, they do have a say in that. Whether it’s privately requesting a trade or telling the staff they want to change their role on the team. Until they do that, respectfully, f*** those guys. Haven’t won anything since Brown. What a shock.

They have to miss the playoffs for anything to happen and sadly, that may take a few more seasons unless Calgary/Vancouver/Anaheim can push the Kings off the cliff next year.
