How Important to Re-Sign Kane

Only if he plays with kids, like Danielson and Mazur, or Yzerman trade our future for NHL top players. Something have to be done, we can't have similar season

He's an undisputed first ballot HOFer, gotta think that's worth something especially on a young team with players just cracking into the league. He was a key part of multiple Cup wins when they were kids watching and dreaming. In addition to that, he's also still productive offensively. Which is something this team isn't in a position to throw away casually at the moment. He may not provide much of anything defensively, but if you're relying on Patrick Kane for that the problem is the rest of your team.

He's at the tail-end of his career, he provides something valuable, and so far he's signed for reasonable short-term deals. As long as that continues, and we do not have a full roster of better options, I see no reason why we shouldn't continue to sign him.

Does nothing for the future of this team. Skilled player, but will have aged out of the league by the time we are competetive. Also, he's a scumbag douche.
We should have shopped him at the last two trade deadlines. Never wanted him to begin with, hope we move on. Would rather take a small step back while integrating a kid that might be part of our future.
I agree. Statistically he is a burden in 5v5 offense and even a bigger burden defensively. The only thing that is holding up is his finishing and PP play which made him a net positive player this season. But I don't think that he adds much in terms of development for younger players as it's not that he is driving good/wise plays. He is just very good finisher.
In his prime he also drove offense with his plays - not anymore.

Statistically he was our 4th best forward in GF% and xGF%.

So I don't know what stats you are "smoking"? Maybe watching some JFresh cards which will take his old season with a bad hip count, or some sample size with Lalonde shit-hockey?

This table shows the latest facts, Red Wings games under McLellan:

Guy was bargain for what he did. This is only the 5-on-5 chart. How good was the power-play...

I voted not a priority, but I think the poll options are a bit limiting.

Basically I want him back unless:

A - he demands multiple years and/or a huge salary boost
B - we're able to add 1-2 top ~6 scoring wingers (Peterka/Robertson/Ehlers/Rossi etc)

I don't really see either scenario playing out. But I certainly think exploring the possibilities for B is a bigger priority and COULD make Kane somewhat redundant.

Maybe I was too hasty with my assessment. Kane probably knows his strengths/weaknesses and adjusts his play to his linemates.

I was looking at his microstat card from 24-25 season:

He'll be signed because he wants to play here. Guys/coaches like him, 1 more year to break some records, etc. It's pretty much what next year is all about for him. I think he'll retire a Red Wings and like many players try to work in some upper management/scouting role.

i dont care about winning next season , ide prefer losing and getting a lotto shot .
i see next season as another development season waiting on our prospects . mean
while i want philosopher kane around teaching the o zone game to all the newbies ,
very important to their development !

and hopefully tavares leaves leafs and signs with detroit for 3 years to bring another
philosopher on board
would love to see DRw in the playoffs next year personally but i would love for DRW to land tavares. i would favor tavares over marner even. if they give marner his 3x15 mil, DRW would likely catch the leafs disease of every player soaking the team for every last penny possible.

on the other hand give tavares 8ish x 4 for a respected veteran and i see the core pieces continuing to take relatively team friendly deals the way raymond, seider, larkin have.

Not opposed to this, only concern would be if Tavares knocked Kasper out of the 2C role. I guess you could go Larkin-Tavares-Kasper-Copp and be rock solid, but I also want Marco to build off this previous season.

Again, would not complain about getting Tavares, just wondering how the lineup would shake out.

ah ya. would try him at LW with raymond and larkin. help larkin handle some centre duties like faceoffs etc.

That sounds good, or perhaps knock Tavares down to 3C but not sure if he'd come here if he didn't have assurances he'd be the second line center. Again, would do what it takes to get him signed and then figure it out. I do like the idea of him on the wing though, good suggestion.
