Green made an important comment about this idea in reference to Pinto the other day on one of the podcasts. He said that he works to get this idea of 1,2,3 lines out of the guys’ heads. He basically said that we don’t really have a top 6, and that 3C isn’t less than 2c. He referenced ice time as an important indicator of value, and he talked a little about roles. He said that he thinks Pinto still has room to grow with his offence as well.

The point is that Pinto is playing with Greig and Amadio, shutting down the leagues best players while putting up points and playing special teams. He doesn’t have to move to another line to demonstrate value. Each line has to bring its own value, and Pintos line has already started to solidify what they can bring to the team. Cozens/Bath, and whomever, or however that line shakes out, will have to provide its own value.

It’s doubtful that they will move Cozens to the wing and break up Pinto’s line that’s is working in order to try and make something new just to make Pinto feel like he’s a 2c not a 3C, because as Green was explaining, that differentiation doesn’t exist on this team.

I think the focus will be on making an identity for Cozens’ line, and figuring out who will play wing on Brady and Stu’s line. Those are the areas that need attention right now in my opinion.
If they re-sign Giroux & with Perron & Zetterlund they have the resources to fill out most of the top nine & I expect he could sign a top nine player July 1 this yr, maybe add another before the TDL & then add one or two next yr. They have more assets & ability to add more than we give them credit for & I expect Staois to surprise us again this summer. We should be getting younger & better over the next two yrs. I also think Greig is going to have a breakout yr as Pinto is doing.

Give pinto something similar to cozens’ contract, then move cozens to rw1 when it’s time for pinto to take 2C and Greig to take 3c.

This. But I think we need the depth of Pinto on 3rd line C for now to compete in ultra competitive division. Think of Lundell in Florida as their 3rd line C. Sign Brock Nelson. Trade Batherson for Peterka.

I want Greig and Pinto to absolutely feast. We would then work from area of great strength of having Pinto properly move into Nelson's role in 2-3 years. Nelson will play more of a 3rd line C role at that stage of his career.

Also allows us to play from area of great strength with Greig and Zetterlund. If one blossoms then that's the 2nd line LW. If both do, then we trade from area of strength.

Not a lot of offence in the lineup.

I like a lot of these players but I’m getting Islanders vibes.

A guy like Batherson leaving can leave a pretty big hole in our offensive depth.

Agreed. We will be losing Giroux RW at some point who is a pretty good playmaker & we shouldn't be trading away good playmakers like Batherson RW which would result in losing two playmakers & point producers losing over 100 pts. Given what we have seen from Zetterlund he is not a playmaker & it remains to be seen if he is a point producer on this team. We already know Batherson is a point producer & capable of putting up 60 to 70 pts.

Can this team afford another small soft player in the lineup given what we have seen once again in the playoffs & how difficult & tough it is to get through 4 series of hard hitting. People are placing Zetterlund into the top six & we still have no idea what we have with this guy who IMO is a downgrade to Batherson.

Peterka had equal amount of points than Batherson in less games. We are literally replacing with a guy who can be even better with better chemistry with Stutzle.

Stutzle, Tkachuk, Peterka, Sanderson all would have finished 1st or 2nd in points on that team.

Also, we very likely get 40 points out of Pinto and Greig next year from the 3rd line. I see that 2nd line being very effective.

We are getting rid of:

Giroux
Perron
Batherson

Replacing with:

Peterka
Nelson
Zetterlund

IMO we get much faster, much harder to play against and stronger without losing out on the skill.

Mind you this isn't the final form of this team, just replacement for this upcoming year. If guys like Zetterlund/Greig do not take major strides, then they are of perfect age to package 1 or even both for whoever becomes the best available top player for trade.

I like Peterka but I don't see him as an offensive catalyst who can run a line the way Batherson can on occasion. He's more of a north-south player.

Our first line looks really good and then it looks like we have a couple of third lines.
