How does Paul Bissonnette have a platform?

How is it an exaggeration? :help:

What else could he have meant by "run Oettinger over"?

Honest question.

Even if it wasn't that deep, it's no different than the examples I gave.
Run Makars head into the boards isnt an exaggeration over Run Oettinger over?

You just dont like the guy. Dont mask it as hes some terrible guy who wants Oettinger hurt or somthing. He was saying it in jest because Oettinger was killing the team he was rooting for.

A Hockey podcast is the #4/#5 Sports podcast in the USA (Apple/Spotify). All pods ranked higher are general Sports pods (except maybe MeatEater being an "outdoorsman" focused Sports pod).

Suffice to say a HUGE podcast following and ranking in USA and internationally for a single-sport pod. Add to that the wide-reaching Social Media and even Legacy Media influence. biznasty has more Twitter followers (1.2M) than AM, McDavid, and Gretzky combined.

I'm genuinely curious, do you think that Hotboxin' With Mike Tyson does not promote (or "grow") boxing and fighting sports?
Do you believe sports like hockey or boxing would be better off without any top ranked podcasts & social media personalities?
Genuinely Curious.
You bolded my question, but never actually answered it, you just listed the podcast ranking and how many followers Biz has on twitter and then asked another unrelated question. (That entire bolded paragraph doesn't even portray a complete thought) What measurable positive benefit does Spittin Chiclets actually have toward improving or growing the game?

Podcasts are another great way for fans of a sport to engage with something they're already interested in, but I really don't think Mike Tyson being on a podcast is moving the needle for the sport in any significant way.

Every panel needs a Bisonnette type of character. The NHL is so damn bland with most of their coverage that it's nice to see somebody who has some personality for a change, even if he comes off clownish at times. I was hoping that TNT would bring more "color" to a generally very generic and boring NHL media landscape and they've succeeded so far. Their coverage far exceeds Sportsnet, ESPN, NBC etc. and Biz is a part of that.

I'm not surprised that a certain portion of NHL fans don't like him though, they tend to hate players/media guys with any sort of personality.

I love media personalities. Guys like Shaq and Barkley or Peyton + Eli have been fairly entertaining. Even Subban can be entertaining at times.

The fact that Biz acts like every single frat guy everyone one of us have ever met is what makes a lot of people dislike him, and frankly, adds to the image of "dude bro" culture of hockey as a sport, in my opinion.

Podcasts don’t grow the sport, you’re right. I couldn’t give 2 shits about boxing I will never listen to Mike Tyson’s podcast. Same thing, people that don’t care about hockey won’t listen to the Spittin Chiclets podcast either.

Yeah, if you thought Biz was remotely serious about that, you're on glue. They praised the living hell out of Oettinger during their podcast.

I don't think it's really a dislike of "any sort of personality".

There's plenty of great personalities in North American hockey media, or any other pro sport, for that matter.

Douchebag fratboy personality, though?

Not a huge fan, but that's just me. :dunno:

Seems he's got a niche group of fans who think he's awesome, and they're more than welcome to have that opinion.

Yeah people are deluded thinking that tons of non-hockey fans are flocking to the sport because some guy they never heard of has a podcast where he invites a bunch of other hockey players that they've never heard of.

Also a lot of people are glossing over the fact that Spitting Chiclets is a major way to advertise and market their own personal brand and merchandise.

He does come off that way but when it boils down to it he's the comic relief guy, the clown so to speak, so it always gets me when people critique his analysis, same with Shaq or Chuck. I guess it's just a matter of preference but I find him to be entertaining even if it comes off as Frat Boyish at times. Guys like him help the game to grow, somebody different, somebody refreshing, somebody who brings some fun to the game.

Then don't watch him. Your opininon obviously doesn't matter seeing as hes having huge success in the media world. He's a panelist on the best hockey broadcast in the USA, he has one of the best sports related Podcasts in the business (ranked), making a lot of money on endorsements, alcohol and appearances.

So who's right, @Rodgerwilco who doesn't like his "dude Bro" image, or the experts in the industry and loads of fans who watch and support him.

NO ONE CARES IF YOU DON"T LIKE HIM. Go watch the View or something.

Have you listened to NBA on TNT. Everyone was just laughing at Chuck saying "when your banging a guy down low" Its the same humor you just dont like Biz or Barstool or whatever. Its a fine opinion to have.

What a strange attacking comment. Yikes, man. I never said my opinion was better than anyone else's I was offering my take on why people dislike him and was speaking directly to someone else and directly questioning something that they said.

Rather odd attack there, man.

Gosh, what a black and white world it must be for you, if you truly believe there are only two types of hockey fans.

I'll even concede there are probably more hockey fans who follow this washed up jock essentially making fart noises with his armpits, than hockey fans who actually watch the View.

I'm somewhere in the middle, as are many, many others I'm sure.

Cheer up.

Biz is a human being too and you are on here slandering him calling him "frat guy" and saying thats why a lot of people dislike him and he adds to the imagine of "dude bro".

I did not once attack you, I simply said, no one cares if you don't like him, best part about the free world is you get to decide who you watch and don't watch.

Millions of fans have dictated he deserves to be on air, both podcast and TNT. Your opinion on HFboards won't change that and cutting him down on here and cutting down hockey culture as frat boy/dude bro type is disgusting....because we can all tell what you mean when yo say it.

I played the game at a high level, my kids play and labelling people based on your biased opinion as a whole is small minded....and frankly an attack on hockey people.

Like I said, you can choose what you consume as far as hockey media with the quick click of a button. So do that...its easier.

I simply pointed out that Biz has a TONNE of success in the hockey world as a media personality and has a huge following.

"washed up jock essentially making fart noises with his armpits" seems pretty judgmental to me, in my life experience those who judge others for a very small portion of their lives without knowing the person seem to be pretty miserable.

When he's on TNT, change the channel, or go outside for a walk.

Then don't post on a forum about him and life goes on without issue.

This is such a strange comment here again. You don't think repeatedly telling someone 'your opinion doesn't matter!!!" in a forum where, ultimately none of our opinions matter about anything, isn't an attack? lol

I never said my opinion was right, I gave my take and added my input for why people don't like him. "Biz is a human being too" lol, as if I'm standing on his doorstep harassing the guy. My comment was directed at a specific comment someone else made, not even toward you. You're the one deciding to hijack that.

Also, I legitimately have no clue what you're on about when you say "we can all tell what you mean when you say it" so please enlighten me as to what I meant by saying that?

Seems that you're pretty offended at me for simply not liking Biz, lol. As far as your "quick click of a button" the same goes for my opinion, if you don't care and don't want to read it, there's an ignore button.

Look, I loath Barstool and its culture and general frattyness. That shit is stupid as hell. Encourages all sorts of -ogynies and -isms that I hate, not to mention reckless self-harm through alcohol and general idiocy.

But I like Biz quite a lot in this role, honestly. Because there is a glimmer of humor that sits atop all that other bullshit, and he's tapped into it quite well. Not to mention, all that bullshit we hate is, for better or for worse, hockey's true culture (hint: it's not for better). Hockey is a game for lunatic idiots. It's incredibly fast, violent, vengeful, and dangerous. It's almosy entirely played by rich white guys--the fratty idiot demographic. A sad reality, but it's the reality.

In any subculture, there will usually be something genuinely funny or interesting or valuable, even if the rest is utter poison. Biz does a good job of capturing that sort of sarcastic, self-deprecating madman goofball in the locker room. If he can do that while avoiding any urge to dip into the toxic depths of the well, he's an asset.

He makes the broadcasts more enjoyable for me.

I bet you're fun at parties.

It's social media and entertainment.....Biz is an amazing personality, knows his hockey and has fun broadcasting and talking on it.

Don't take him too seriously....he's doing this for his own benefit and growing viewership.

'Fat Guys" and "Dudebros" have a certain reputation behind them when it comes to partying and women as well as intelligence....you say that is what hockey culture displays. We all knew you meant that....otherwise why would you say it.

Might honestly be the best comment in this entire thread tbh, man. Well said.

This can be said for almost all major sports and US college sports in North America.

The best part about this all is most on air hockey personalities never went to college and as Canadian's never saw a "Frat" type lifestyle.

Another personal jab, there ya go.

I asked what you're trying to imply I meant and you're still beating around the bush... I was involved in the frat scene in college, Biz reminds me of nearly every frat guy that I knew there personally.

If you don't like or are offended my interpretation of the game and the culture of the game, again by your own words, you're one click away from not ever seeing it again.
