How does Paul Bissonnette have a platform?

I think it's all part of the schtick. Look at fandom in general. People say all sorts of weird, hubristic things when it comes to their sports teams. I don't take it that far myself. But some people live, breathe, and die based on how their team is doing.

I think the Chiclets guys lean into it because it stirs up emotions and gets attention on them. It's just like any other shock jockey out there spewing hot takes to get a rise out of people and to get views.
You are right, and overall, it's working well. It just doesn't work with me but who cares ahah!

I don’t really care about it for the shock value either. They don’t really talk about my team, because my team sucks right now.

I like it because it’s mindless and entertaining. I love listening to them on walks or runs. For serious hockey info from serious journalists, I tend to listen to 32 Thoughts.

This is the world we live in, people think that if they don't like something or someone for whatever reason then its not something people should consume or enjoy.

I've listened to Spittin Chiclets and followed Biz since the beginning, they guy is a great personality for the game and as Chiclets was gaining popularity he did tell some pretty risque stories involving his sexual exploits....but as long as they were consensual (which they were) how can you cringe or be upset by them, even if you are a woman.

What upsets me is the fact that so many women/feminist types claim that guys like him are horrible people because they've had an active and out of the norm sex life. But yet in regards to professional sports and those with money/fame, their are always willing partners to go home with, bring home or hang out with them while they have a spotlight.

I guarantee that the bulk of men in here and many women would love the lifestyle while they were younger, ages 18-28 or so making millions of dollars, going to clubs/parties where everything is free and beautiful men/women want to be around you and go home with you.
That's on you, I'm 35 when I look back on those days all I think is "wow I dodged a bullet".

Between STDs, unwanted pregnancies, and the Amber Herds of the world, I'm very very glad I got married when I did.

I'm 35, when I hear of a 40 year old "getting buckled" I cringe. If you still need booze to be happy at 40 you really gotta work on yourself.

He was a successful NHL player, he may not of played games/scored points as much as a lot, but he knew where he fit in and made 223 game or so, as well as played a lot of AHL and ECHL
If you actually took the time to listen to Chiclets, he provides some great insight for situations as a player whos been there or from his own sources.

If you don't like him...then don't watch him or listen.
When I look at biz and whit I see losers, it's refreshing and unique. I have no interest in a clean cut perfect specimen.

Biz lacked the talent to be in the NHL and got his 200+ games with heart. You get the impression that the money he made was long gone by the time he retired from the minor leagues. He may be a dog, but he's a likable underdog. Makes me happy known he might have some financial security as well as some stability in his health.

Whit was the other end had the silver spoon, yet he comes across as someone who was never satisfied.

I like these guys because they feel real, they feel like real humans, with obvious flaws and warts. I don't agree with a lot of their egotistical behaviors, but I respect them as people.

Guy is a whole ass man child. Even on TNT, he's so damn cringy and awkward. Definition of a punching bag.

He tweets like a 13 year old boy. Hoping on a bandwagon whoever plays the Ranger. Seeing a grown man cry is pretty funny I must say. Guy is a tool.

Not my cup of tea. Out of place on a panel with a bunch of scoring forwards and/or ex-coaches. He tries too hard and comes across as an ex-player who truly can’t analyze the relevant parts of the game. But he probably brings in a chunk of viewers because of the barstool thing.

Hmm. I got the impression and get the impression that biz is smart with his money. They always used to bug him about being cheap

I am surprised that tweet is controversial here. I would guess that Oettinger would read it as the highest compliment he could get. It's not a genuine suggestion, are people reading it as a genuine suggestion?

I loathe barstool but I am a fan of Biz. The broadcasts have been much better with him bringing the levity - I normally can't stand those panels so it is saying something that I can even sit through them.

I give TBS credit. They've done with hockey what they've done with NBA coverage. Bissonette is a big part of that.

They're the best at covering MLB post season too.

Why can't ESPN get our of its own way?

He's part of Barstool Sports.
Have you read some of their Adderal-fueled blogs?

Biz is a p***ycat, and Whit has a Vodka drink.

It's interesting to see how many people find this kind of stuff "entertaining". On top of that it's noteworthy how low the standards are to justify ones platform i.e. "you talk about him, job well done". That's the problem in a nutshell today. Instead of being given a platform for a skill, achieving something you can get a platform by simply trolling people (read: pissing people off).

Welcome to generation TikTok

Why did you create this thread?

That's why.

I'd say it's you who doesn't understand what humor is if you think that that's humor.

I don't mind him. Entertaining. He Hates the Rangers which is what he's supposed to do as a former Penguin. Listening to him rant and curse about the refs was funny. He's a good enemy. Hockey doesn't have enough of those. Too many teams and players who are "buddy buddy" on and off the ice. Sean Avery is the same way, and even funnier.
I agree 99% with you, the only exception being that I don't think Avery is nearly as funny but that is just taste of humor. Guys like them are really good for the sport. I mean Biz was on the McAfee show for 35 minutes. Since I am from Europe I am not sure how relevant that is but it seems like the definition of grwoing the game. Not sure how often the NHL is in the spotlight on that show on a regular basis.

Because he’s tall and still has a nice full head of hair, which they need to compensate for Tocchet.

He's become quite likeable over the past couple years. He refuses to take himself seriously and I can really respect that.
Agreed. I think some people assume he's still just 100% toilet humour 100% of the time but I think he's been coming across very well in non-hockey forums lately (Pat McAfee Show, Pardon My Take). Always ends up as a funny and entertaining convo with the hosts clearly liking Biz and he also gives some quality hockey insight (in the eyes of the average sports fan). I think he's great for growing hockey.

He's also apprently very serious and motivated behind the scenes, Whitney has talked about how he (he as in Whit) is happy to just have a decently successful hockey pod but Biz is always trying to take them to the next level. He's a determined business man who now can learn from Gretzky how to conquer that world. Don't think he's going anywhere.

His ability to laugh at himself is indeed endearing. I think he will grow on people.

...
I'm genuinely curious, how do you think that Spittin Chiclets is growing the game?

I really can't imagine many people who are listening aren't already die hard hockey fans.
A Hockey podcast is the #4/#5 Sports podcast in the USA (Apple/Spotify). All pods ranked higher are general Sports pods (except maybe MeatEater being an "outdoorsman" focused Sports pod).

Suffice to say a HUGE podcast following and ranking in USA and internationally for a single-sport pod. Add to that the wide-reaching Social Media and even Legacy Media influence. biznasty has more Twitter followers (1.2M) than AM, McDavid, and Gretzky combined.

I'm genuinely curious, do you think that Hotboxin' With Mike Tyson does not promote (or "grow") boxing and fighting sports?
Do you believe sports like hockey or boxing would be better off without any top ranked podcasts & social media personalities?
Genuinely Curious.

And I "cringe" when I see grown men using the Gen Z word of cringe to describe how they feel. It's embarrassing. Drinking is associated with socializing and good times to many people, me included, it's fun, sorry that bothers you, maybe look in the mirror here?

How do you see losers? Whit is a multi millionaire ex pro athlete co-anchoring the most successful hockey podcast in the world. He was smart enough to transform a random drink he enjoyed golfing into a liquor brand that sold out across the US and Canada. Biz is the biggest name in hockey media right now, just because they don't articulate how you'd like certainly doesn't make them losers. Weird take dude.

"Someone needs to run Oettinger over".

.....I mean, what do you think he meant, exactly?

"Someone needs to take a whack at McDavid's ankles"

"Someone needs to run Makar headfirst into the boards"

Why do you keep giving exaggerated examples? Shouldn't this show you that your trying to make it something more. Its not that deep.

All of those things are true, though.

How is it an exaggeration? :help:

What else could he have meant by "run Oettinger over"?

Honest question.

Even if it wasn't that deep, it's no different than the examples I gave.
