Speculation: How Does Dallas Make Cap Space in the Offseason

...Dallas in gonna be in a crunch with a lot of young teams that have a shyteton of Cap...he's a prime candidate for an offersheet that'll only cost a team their 2nd...getting a 1st for Bourque now and ridding yourselves of Dumba at the same time is a proposition that has merit for Dallas...
Don't worry, Bourque will be signed by Nill and company.

He'll be wearing a Stars jersey next season.

Id like the Habs to target Marchment + Bourque

I know the brass doesn’t want another project as a solution for the 2nd line centre and want more of a sure thing but Id like to gamble on Bourque

At least one team in Dallas is all-in. The football team is only all-inp when its owner is with an intern.

It's pretty easy, if Chicago starts sniping RFA's, not just from Dallas, one, they've now inflated every RFA contract for their own team.
If Bourque is getting a 4.3m AAV contract from Chicago, Kurashev is going to be too, as will Riechel and Nazar (at the minimum) as they are producing around the same as Bourque, they'll have a comparable as well.
Then you have the risk of an offer-sheet that walks Bedard right to UFA.
Sure they would match it, but they are not buying UFA years then and are losing control of the player at the time their window might be opening.
It's a risk most teams don't take, not because they can't snag the player, but because repercussions down the line aren't worth it.
Could they, sure, should they? sure probably, if only because it might force Dallas to move on from Marchment. Will they though? I doubt it.
Kurashev isn’t going to get resigned. Reichel sucks and Nazar is trending towards being worth that. “Retaliation” doesn’t come to mind as a reason I should not be adding a good going player ready to contribute.

He’d have to sign the offer sheet anyway. Maybe he won’t, but I’d still try. Not really about making Dallas worse. It’s about trying to get better.

Would the Stars dump Seguin for say a 4th-7th + mid level prospect?

Chicago might be interested. Need to add talent (esp RH forwards), take a gamble on him meshing with Bedard or Nazar (if hes playing center)

Marchment could easily fetch a 2nd rd pick+, he's by no means overpaid but more of a luxury Dallas can't really afford.

Sharks have multiple 2nds in the next 2 drafts and it wouldn't hurt to start adding more long term vets with the kids to start taking bigger steps forward. Marchment I can see fitting in Grier's vision and has familial ties with the team.

How does Ottawa's 2nd for Marchment sound?

Seguin makes 10 mill for 2 more years and has a huge injury history while getting significantly older. Dallas is trying to go all in the next few years, they aren’t likely to trade guys who can help them today like Robertson. Seguin is the most obvious to be moved if he isn’t Ltired and it will take significant assets to move him even if he’s a decent player still.

Someone is going to be traded by them, that’s almost an accepted fact.

Would they move Harley to keep space for Robertson if his demands are too high or does the addition of Rantanan make losing Robertson easier.
I know the cap is going up alot but both of these guys look to be in positions to get big contracts after next year and it seems to look tight for Dallas.
Harley easily. Already rumors of a weird demands from Robertson.

Well let's see...

Based on the current roster, the Stars have $90,176,666 committed to the cap in 2025-26, which is $5,323,334 in cap space on a roster of 16 (8F/6D/2G)... to fill out a 22-man roster (13F/7D/2G) they need 5 forwards and a defenseman and would only have $887,222 for each of those 6 roster spots.

As other have mentioned, Dumba will be gone. At a 3.75m cap hit for 1 year and 3.5m owing, I can't imagine it costs more than a 2nd to dump is contract.

That makes things much more manageable and would have about 1.295m per player for the 7 to fill out the roster.

I also think it makes sense to move out Marchment's contract as it would make adding depth so much easier.

Of course, Seguin's health also could be a factor. If he's done, then I don't think they have to move anyone (but I think thy woud still move on from Dumba)

I also think Bourque will be a prime candidate for an offer sheet.... not only will it be extremely difficult for Dallas to match, but he's likely to get considerably more money and playing time elsewhere.

If I were the Flames GM, I would offer Dallas our lowest 1st and a 3rd for Bourque as it'd be more than they'd get from an offer sheet. and I could easily see a team offer him 2 years with a 4.5-5m AAV, even if he isn't worth it right now because they'd gain his RFA rights for after the contract, when he may be worth the QO.
I was thinking Bourque get Broberg offer. Around 2 years, 9.2 million, give up a second rounder

I've got a slightly used Jarry and Graves for them in that case.
Both have 12 team no-trade lists that I would guess includes San Jose. I’d be open to Jarry as we’ll need someone to give Askarov time off when needed. I don’t think there’s a fit for Graves at this stage. Last time I talked in a Pens thread, there wasn’t any willingness to move a draft pick with Jarry to take him or take Goodrow back so I’m not sure what can be done there.
