Wings have played 11 straight one-goal (including 2-goal EN) games, 13 of the last 14. They've narrowed the huge SOG disparity from earlier in the season. Whether it's because they are grinding or just dragging teams down to their level, they've been in almost every game for the past month. Their record in that time is 5-6-3 which is probably fair, could be a bit better, could be a bit worse. No one in management, coaching room or locker room is ready yet to write off the season. They're not going to move a lot of guys, especially if it requires retention, or start calling up prospects for a series of screentests, so a lot of these so-called fixes are just nonsense at this point, fans being Chicken Littles saying the sky is falling or wanting the sky to fall in order to pick a guy who's probably not going to be as good as Raymond or Larkin, both of whom bring a lot more than points. They could use a couple more Raymonds and another Larkin and they might have already drafted those guys without tanking, and they'll try again next June regardless of where they pick.
If things go (further) south there could be a coaching change. Until that happens or even if it does, they are probably in the market for someone who can play 20 minutes on the second pair. Not a lot of those guys are available because most other teams are also not ready yet to give up on the season. They're not going to trade a top 7-8 prospect or first-round picks, so the solution, if one is ever found, is likely to be underwhelming or at least not a mid-20s long-term solution. If they clean up their PK and get good goaltending, they are going to stay in touch with the WC race until the TDL and that's when things will happen.
