Injury Report: How do YOU fix the Red Wings? 2.0!

Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene might be a cap casualties on Dallas. Of the two I’d prefer Marchment even though he might cost an asset to pick up. Hes a perfect compliment to our top 6. Under 30. Big, physical, rugged. He can also play up and down the lineup to give the team flexibility.

Duchene would be a solid pickup but I also think the stars work to keep him. If Detroit picked him up he could play 2c or 1LW, swapping with Kasper.

I looked at all of those as possibilities for that spot - I'd be fine with any of them to round out the Top 6; but UFA is a bit of a crap shoot based upon so many factors of what those guys are looking for but I'd say any of those fit the bill

With how much cap is available league wide we can probably give tank to Chicago or San Jose just to stay above the floor.

Also, I think there’s barely above a zero percent chance we get Marner.

Don’t think tank accepts a trade to a basement team would probably try and get the buyout

I still think it’s possible to buy him out 50% and get another team involved so whoever grabs him gets him at under 1.2. Take the future at this point

i like the idea of getting marner but for DRWs guessing it will cost more like 15mil, if he even would agree to come here at all.

That basement team could trade him to a contender at the deadline. And it’s low pressure in the regular season for him until he’s traded.

There’s worse places to spend 6 months than San Jose when you’re a millionaire.

True but I don’t think he’d want to go to a bottom team till then. I Could be wrong ... also think a contender would take him now if he’s double retained , I don’t care if we get the famous futures and the 3rd team gets a 5th

Just want him gone

My pie in the sky offseason plan would be to target RFAs and young UFAs that can contribute not just now, but also over the next 5 years. I'd like to see us go after Samberg, Rossi, Fabbro, Tsyplakov, and others in that 23-26 age range.

My offseason would look something like this:

1) Buyout Holl & Tarasenko
2) Trade our 2025 1st for Rossi+Wild 2nd (Based on the cost being a late 1st I think that's about right), sign Rossi to a 7 year x 6.85M deal
3) Trade Wallinder+Berggren+3rd for Tsyplakov; Sign Tsyplakov to a 4 year x 3.75M deal
4) Offer Sheet Dylan Samberg, 5 years x6.5M ~ Cost of a 1st+3rd
5) Sign Dante Fabbro to a 4 year x 3.75M deal
6) Sign Eric Robinson to a 2 x 2.25M deal
7) Re-sign RFAs Soderblom+Johansson to 1 year x 1.25M deals

The 2025-2026 Red Wings

Marco Kasper - Dylan Larkin - Lucas Raymond
Maxim Tsyplakov - Marco Rossi - Alex Debrincat
Michael Rasmussen - JT Compher - Nate Danielson
Eric Robinson - Andrew Copp - Eduards Tralmarks
Elmer Soderblom

Dylan Samberg - Moritz Seider
Simon Edvinsson - Dante Fabbro
Erik Gustafsson - Ben Chiarot
Albert Johansson

Cam Talbot
Petr Mrazek

With ~1.2M cap space left and 22/23 roster spots filled.

Even if the Wings don't go after Rossi I would love to poach Samberg from the Jets and sign Fabbro. A Samberg-Seider pairing would probably be on of the best defensive pairings in the league and Edvinsson-Fabbro would do great in their minutes. Fabbro's can slide down and anchor the 3rd pair once ASP is ready for NHL minutes.

I hate most of this.

Johansson as 7D but Gus is still in? WTF?
Why does Tsyplakov, a 35 point player, get 2nd line minutes?
Why does Tralmaks get a 4th line spot?
Why is the 3rd line ass? Compher and Ras together? I’ll vomit.
Why are we sitting Soderblom for a 29 year old 4th line FA whose only good season was heading into UFA? Do we not want him to get better?
The price for Samberg is steep. But that salary isn’t high enough to get WPG to balk. They match.

I’ll take Rossi and Fabbri. No thanks to the rest.

I see Johansson as a safe 6-7D, I'd rather start with Gus and see what he can do in a new season. Tsyplakov offers some much needed size and jam to the top 6 and he has great underlying numbers. His ES scoring. either by per 60 or total, would have put him 4th on the Wings; his limited PP time is why his point totals are so low.

I'm fine with moving Soderblom into the bottom 6, even taking Ras' spot on the 3rd line. The lines were more so placeholders. I do think you're underrating Tralmarks. Having seen him at the WC I think he'll fit in well in a 4th line role.

The time to get Fabbro was before Nashville waived him. Probably could have had him for very little. He played very well this season. He loves playing for CBJ and they love having him. He will re-sign there.
As much as I would love to get Samberg, Winnipeg is going to match any reasonable offers.

We could have really helped our terrible blue line by outbidding the Blues for Fowler and convincing Nashville to take a pick rather than waving Fabbro. A shame the front office was napping or thought that what we already had were better options. Those were the easy, relatively inexpensive fixes. They came and went. Hopefully the front office is more vigilant going forward.

If the right players arent available when we draft, I'd definitely be on board with giving the first to get Rossi.

Start By clearing the deck some. You can’t get change if all the same players are hanging around.

1)Buyout Holl.
2) Trade Tarasenko (50% retained) for a late pick.
3) Trade Rasmussen (No retention) for a late pick.
4) Trade Compher for a similiar bad contract to Compher. (Maybe Pelech). Think something like the Dubois/Keumper bad contracts trade last year.
Or eat 35% retention on Compher and see if you can find a taker. 3.3M x 3 years may be tradeable. Would lead to 1.8M deadcap for 3 years. Not ideal, but better that a buyout which would be 1.7M for 6 years.

Generally better to use retention spots than Buyouts when possible. I believe we now have both of our retention spots available to use. Holl isn’t really rosterable… so retention won’t help there.

The guys I would be eyeing are Peterka, Byram, and Rossi. All three fit the core age.

I know a lot of people are down on Byram due to recent performance and injuries, but that could work in our favor to get him for a bit less. Of course he would need to stay healthy and produce more.

I think you're right on both counts. I think I'd be willing to go to 7M for Samberg, but I'd expect the Jets match it. Maybe with Fabbro we push it so something like 4 or 4.5M for 3 or 4 years and see if that can entice him to make the switch.

With Raymond and Seider signed to their deals we can afford to pay a bit of a premium for guys that would shore up our biggest weakness.

I would not be handing out that type of contract to a guy who was on waivers 6 months ago. Re Fabbro.

Would fit with what Detroit regularly targets/ends up with in free agency.

Keep in mind Trotz is an awful GM and has waived or traded other good players for peanuts.

He have L. Schenn to Pittsburgh for a 4th at the deadline. Then Pittsburgh traded him for a 2nd, no retention if I’m remembering right.

Then he waived Tolvanen who is a 40 point guy in Seattle.

Just smells like all Yzerman’s biggest free agent mistakes. Compher, Copp, Husso were all middling career role players/backup goalie who had one good year heading into free agency (at a young age of 26/27). A player with one good year at that age might not be a red flag, but it should certainly be a yellow one. If Rasmussen somehow scores 55 points this year, I would not be a proponent of giving him a 4/5 year deal like he is on an upward trajectory from now on.

If they want to throw some money at Fabbro for 1 or 2 years to see him prove it… so be it. Not the profile you throw term at IMO. Even the above 2 players you mentioned. Maybe should not have been cast off for nothing. But still would not throw long term at either of them.

I agree mostly...

100% we should target Peterka but I like going after KA Miller or Hague instead for the backend...

In free agency I'd like Beauvillier...wouldn't be expensive and adds good depth to our bottom 6
