How Do You Define Success for the 2024 25 Winnipeg Jets

Bumping this topic because it's pretty relevant now. President's Trophy as the best record. Can't take that from them. However, this season can be chalked up as a failure. I said that the Jets need to get out of the 1st round for the season to be a success. It's not.

If they don’t come back it’s ultimately a failure precisely because of how successful it was. They were a dominant team with no severe underlying issues and they have cratered under pressure, which is the most disgraceful way to end your season. You need to at least prove you can beat 1 (one!) team in the postseason.

They did it!

Stanley Cup is always the goal, but very hard to achieve.
Regular season is already a success check
Playoff: considering what the team went through the last few years, this is already a success. Just don't drop 4-0 to the STARS next

The BLUES are a very good team, they were coming very strong they are not really an 8th place team.

Oooooh. Spoke toooo soooon!

I agree it was 100% critical that the Jets win at least one round after a great regular season. They accomplished that. This will go a decent way to changing the narrative, regardless of what happens against Dallas. Hopefully they can compete well in the next series and continue to rewrite the script.

We’re one of top 8 teams in the NHL playoffs, I’m fairly happy with that. Regular season success means nothing during the playoffs, other home ice advantage, but once the playoffs start teams are all equal seeds.

I've maintained for years my definition for a successful season for any franchise in the NHL is winning a playoff series. As a fanbase, as an organization, you shouldn't be mad at a series that makes it this far, basically no matter what.

And by that metric, the Jets, Leafs and Sabres have been by far the worst three franchises in the league since Winnipeg Joined.

If you don't count the pandemic (Fans in the building make a difference in enjoyment while watching, I think we saw that this year), this is only the second "successful" season in Jets 2.0 history. Only the fourth all time in the NHL.

I think you want the team to not just make it to round 2 but compete there.

Jets were swept in the 2nd round in 3 of the 4 previous years they made it this far:

Beat the Flames in 5 in 1984-85 but then got swept by the Oilers (with Hawerchuk out). Never led in any of the 3rd periods of round 2. Game 3 was tied until Gretzky scored the winner with 6 minutes left. Game 4 was 5-1 halfway through the 3rd period, finished 8-3.

Beat the Flames in 6 in 1986-87, but then lost 4 straight to the Oilers. First game of round 2 went to OT but Glenn Anderson won it, 36 seconds in. Never led in the next 3 games, never even got within 1 goal in the last 10 minutes of any of them.

Swept the Oilers in 2021, with the last 3 games going to OT, including triple overtime in the clinching game 4. But then lost 4 straight to the Habs (with Scheifele suspended for the last 3). Three of the games were close (two 1-goal losses including OT in game 4, plus the infamous Jake Evans EN goal in game 1), but the Jets scored only 6 goals in total, and never led for a single minute of the series.

2018 is the one and only time (so far!) that the Jets have won a playoff game beyond the first round.

And of course, they had never won their division before this year.

The Jets have been competitive for most of the last decade, but they've had very little success so far. Winning the division and the President's Trophy this year meant a lot to me as a fan, having watched since day one in the NHL with so little to celebrate.

I just hope they can continue this roll for another 2 or 3 rounds -- at least get to the Finals and give us a real chance at the Cup.
