How Do You Clean Your Replica Jerseys?

How do you clean/care for any replica jerseys you may have (say, any NHL, AHL or other replica team jersey you may own). Do you ever run it through the washing machine once in a while? Do you use a spot pen or something?

The jersey I wear most often is about fifteen years old and is still in rather good shape; the colours are still fine and the patches are only slightly frayed. I just toss it in with my regular laundry (cold water, low heat tumble dry) every month or so or when it starts looking dirty or smells.

They used really tough fabric even in the replicas (at least, for the CCM jerseys) so I wouldn't be too worried if that's what you have. I can't speak for the RBKs though since I don't have one.

It would depend on the type of jersey. Those with large crest and extensive embroidery, such as previous Sabres, can get pretty beat up in a wash machine. Spin cycles and such can "warp" a large chest crest. Hand wash with any spot treatment is the norm for me. Woolite Detergent....

I never put any kind of jersey into a dryer. I always hang dry draped over a rod in the laundry room pretty much the same way you would hang a fresh clean towel on a rack...

I just throw them in the wash (warm, permanent press) and dryer- all mine are CCM semi-pros though. But NHL teams use washing machines for these things, I don't see any reason to do any differently.

The pro jersey's, I used to just throw in the machine and wash, never put them in the dryer. Replicas usually are a lighter weight material but should hold up to the washing machine.

What about if you have your jersey signed (with a sharpie). Is cold water still okay?

Should be. That stuff is permanent, that's the point. It impregnates the fibers of the fabric like a normal dye.

I have a signed Kings Gretzky jersey from '94 that I have worn and washed a bunch of times and the signature is still as dark as the day he signed it (on one of the 9's on the back).
