Brutal break for Segs. Long road back from hip surgery, against all odds had steadily been getting better over the past 3 seasons despite being in his 30's and now this. Wish him all the best and hopefully he can make it back for the playoffs.

That said, this could be a godsend for the the Stars with Seguin on LTIR. (Especially if he comes back for the playoffs ala Stone/Kucherov).

What is available on the market for them? Maybe 5m and 5m split to shore of D + get a good replacement forward or put it all towards one big fish.

I already had the Stars as a top 3 cup favorite this year. Would be a waste if they squandered this cap space. They should be aggressive and do it sooner than later to avoid the bidding wars of TDL day.

They’ll have roughly 16 million.

I’d imagine Nill will try to add a top 4 RD, and a couple top 9 forwards.

Taylor Hall please take him.
On the topic of Blackhawks and Stars....

Call me crazy but I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world for the Stars to try and take on Seth Jones if they think Seguin is cooked and if Hawks retain 2ish mil in salary.

Unless I'm mistaken, Jones is RD and Miro, Lindell, and Harley are all LD? He's become a meme but I think Jones is still a fantastic Dman if he's your #3 best D.

I'm not a Stars or Hawks fan so I have no dog in the fight, maybe Stars fans think that's the worst idea they've ever heard but they are plenty deep up front with Bourque still waiting in the wings and a bit thin on the back end.

Servalli, Friedman, Dreger all have them as their favorite to get the biggest prize at the deadline, whatever that may be.

Jim Nill villain arc beginning now. Lost to the Knights in the WCF doing the scam and now we're gonna do it right back.

On the defense side of things, the dream would be Rasmus Andersson (if CGY sells him). Connor Murphy would also be a nice two-run rental.

Offensively, and I know it's crazy to type, but a very trusted Stars source, Sean Shapiro, (who doesn't just float things around) specifically name-dropped Evgeni Malkin in an article this morning as someone he sees Dallas kicking the tires on. I would be shocked if something came to fruition, but if any more smoke starts appearing on that front, you never know..

As for pending UFAs, I could easily see them interested in Granlund to slot into their stacked top-9. Dallas runs three true scoring lines, so a traditional bottom 6-er wouldn't make much sense for them.

I do expect Dallas to be aggressive, though.

Fowler is definitely available. He's not the 1D he's being used as in Anaheim but he's a solid #3 that can play PP2/PK2 and (if necessary) play his off side, but not as good at it. He's probably individually the Ducks best D right now, but the pairs have really meshed well since he's been out (could be the system change too). He's due to be back tonight or Friday so we'll see if it's chemistry or system.

2 years left on the contract, Ducks can retain if needed but that would add to the price.

Who is peddling this Malkin garbage?

Sean Shapiro. Former Stars full-time beat reporter, now jointly covers Dallas and Detroit. He's the most trusted source with legit information that the Stars have. I can't stress enough about how rarely he puts names out there. He doesn't fish for interactions.

Here's the clip from his article this afternoon. Again, nothing concrete, just him relaying something that sources told him (which he hardly ever does).
