How come Adam Boqvist busted so hard while the other Dman chosen from 1-12th overall have all done pretty well if not excellent in the league

because your precious prospects are harder to project and nothing is assured.

The rushed excuse is always weak.

If a player is not "rushed" and just never gets called or stays up, people just say "well he sucked", but if a player was "rushed" people say "oh he was rushed, that's why he stinks", no maybe he just stinks regardless of specific development choices.

That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. D pairs are routinely just run at even strength and often balanced out. Calling a #5 Defenseman a "top pair" DMan is misleading at best, and an outright lie at worst.
I didn’t cal him a top pair defenseman, I stated the fact that he spent most of his time on the top pair with Werenski this year.

It doesn't really have anything to do with development being rushed or not, though.

The story of Boqvist's lackluster results begins and ends with his injury history. If he's healthy, we don't have this conversation.

Boqvist was taken out of the European Pro route, brought to the O, where he put up good but not incredible numbers in London. Then in 2019-20, spends barely any time in Rockford and then rushed into the Blackhawks lineup. Contrast that with Bouchard who the Oilers slow cooked (despite criticism) and let him develop more in Bakersfield.

Boqvist also just lacks a willingness to defend consistently, and because of the rushed development, his offense is nowhere near good enough to outweigh his shortcomings

- Rushed to NHL too early
- Not best skater, always a weakness
- Concussions/injuries
- His defense has always been issue. So, when not scoring he is fairly worthless at times

Still young enough to potentially turn it around but the chances of that happening continue to decline

This year is probably make or break for him as far as if he has future in NHL

Even Bouchard had problems. He has arrived , but only after being stapled to Ekholm for a whole season. At the same time, they shipped off Barrie just to gift Bouchard a spot on the top powerplay. The team bent over backwards to support Bouchard's development. Perhaps Boqvist didn't have similar support?
The only reason Barrie was playing ahead of Bouchard on the PowerPlay was to keep Bouchard affordable.
When they were both on the team and Bouchard, for whatever reason got an opportunity on the power-play, he always outperformed Barrie.

Neither of those defencemen have shown any sign of being capable of playing like NHLers in their own zone. The Oilers seem to consider being able to play defence optional for their blueliners.

Just wait.

This is where Bill Zito’s team excels.

For example, OEL and Orrsling.
Forsling, yes.

OEL still wasn't very good last season.

I feel like for Boqvist to excel he needs to be put in a similar situation that Bouchard was put in, unfortunately that's not going to happen in Florida unless he plays with Forsling, which is doubtful.

Boqvist will still put up some points though, there's not a lot of competition for him when it comes to offensive defensemen in Florida.

Zito’s had his misses, thankfully they are few and he knows how/when to cut ties.

OEL was more than fine in his time here. Was happy to have him.

Was developmentally rushed also recurring injuries.

Some players just don’t pan out.

I disagree. Barrie was worse in those ways we see how Bouchard is better but Bouchard had defensive concerns. Bouchard has never been a great skater and has been a sleepy decision maker. He was kept off to protect him from getting burned in short handed chances against

i feel like these's a hidden X factor all prospects have that we cant see. It governs how well a player can translate his strengths to the NHL.
The speed of the game and the lack of time u have must be so tough. even little things like how defenders use their sticks to block passing lanes etc.
Its about adjusting your game and strengths so that you're still effective. some guys just dont have that Xfactor
