Nic Lardis (2023) - 14 goals 19 points in 18 games
Martin Misiak (2023) - 9 goals 18 points in 18 games

NCAA:

This should probably be moved over to the Hawks board but I enjoy the compilation of data. Thank you, @EbonyRaptor

Unless the intent is for every team to post their own top prospect synopsis, then it works here, but I'd make that more clear in the OP.

My intent was for fans of other teams to post their prospect progress.

I changed the title to "how are your kids doing?" Hopefully the intention is more clear.

They're doing fine. One is adjusting well to kindergarten after some struggles with autistic tendencies while the other is flying through second grade.

Thanks for asking.

I'm curious how prospects of other teams are doing ... or I suppose this could be a thread for good old fashioned HF smarm and ridicule - as unusual as that would seem.

Roy is doing tremendous. Engstrom too. The rest are up and down. I gues Farrell is also doing well and Mailloux too but they are still pretty far from the NHL.

Fowlers also doing good.

I thought this was going to be a fantasy or sim league question.

Kinda a mixed bag for me

I didn't realize Roy was in the AHL this season. He's got 7 goals 16 points in 12 games - very good. Does he have a shot to get some NHL games this season?

I'm surprised you didn't mention Lane Hutson who is kicking ass and taking names at BU this season.

Lanes been injured and had a bit of a slow start. Hasnt looked as good as last year IMO. Ditto Mesar, Reinbacher and Beck.

As for Roy, I have little doubt hed be one of the 6 best forwards in the Habs lineup right now. I'd rather he stay down and play but well see, there's definitely a chance he gets games.

I'll name off the players that I really like as potential upper-lineup players.

Danielson - early season inconsistency in his first month back in the WHL but he's been playing with McQueen the last half dozen games and it's been helping him find a groove in not overdoing it out there. Team is very much dysfunctional. They lack good D that win puck battles and move the puck. They rely heavily on Bjarnason who's a very good goalie prospect for Philly.

Sandin-Pellikka - he has been growing so much already this season. Offensively he's been scoring lots of goals and his playmaking and vision are showing that he's finding more outlets. Defensively he's closing gaps and maintaining position and the edges/puck retrieval have been awesome. He looks insanely comfortable out there. Strong kid at his 5'11 180lb stature. Yzerman and Lidstrom have spoken highly of him already and the strides he's made.

Augustine - great goalie prospect already settled in at MSU. Thought he was a nice pick in the 2nd this year as it was a low-key very solid goalie draft.

Kasper - missing the entire offseason of training was bound to have an effect on a 19 year old playing on smaller ice for the first time in the pros. I have no doubt he will figure it out and Detroit will be plenty patient with him.

Buchelnikov - has been consistently in the lineup and really contributing offensively... Even put on the PP and has scored there. Gaining trust on a new team at 20 years old in the KHL is great and I honestly believe he is a legit darkhorse to be another potential Dadonov-level guy. I love his offensive game in tight space and think it will translate well. Defensively he knows where to be and is continually learning.

Edvinsson - this guy is a f***ing beast. #1D potential and I can't wait til one of the veteran D get curbed for him this year. His offense will come along more and more but you will have a terrible time with him containing you. Already leading the Griffins D right now.

Cossa - having a very solid bounce-back year with Grand Rapids. Massive goalie and we all know he was extremely raw and needed time. Glad Detroit let him cook in Toledo last year despite many calling it "disappointing".

Mazur - cannot deny this kid. Comes back from injury and is already 4 points in 5 AHL games on a low scoring Griffins team. He's gonna be a pain-in-the-ass plug-in guy in your top 6 that many other fanbases will probably start to hate. Great knack for scoring goals around the net and he's doing so for his boyhood team.

Wallinder - very raw player. Currently adjusting to smaller ice and playing his aggressive game in each zone in Grand Rapids, despite the team being a bit of a shit show.

Dumais has like 30+ points in something like 11 games played

Fantilli and Voronkov are leading the team in points as rookies

Mateychuk is killing it in Moose Jaw

Ivanov is getting legitimate playing time in the KHL

Brindley last I checked was leading the NCAA in goals scoring and was top 3 in points.

Forwards

AHL
Nick Robertson - 9gp, 5 goals 11 points | NHL 4gp 2 goals 4 points
Alex Steeves - 12 gp, 8 goals 14 points
Nick Abruzzese - 12 gp, 3 goals 11 points
Max Ellis - 10gp 6 points
Dmitry Ovechinnikov - 6gp 4 goals 5 points
Ryan Tverberg - 5gp 1 goal 4 pts
Pontus Holmberg - 2gp 2pts | NHL 7 games 0pts
Roni Hirvonen, Ty Voit - Hurt

OHL
Easton Cowan - 13 gp 8 goals 24 points - Best PPG in the OHL
Brayden Kressler - 15gp 9 goals 20 points

WHL
Fraser Minten - 5gp 1 goal 6 points | NHL 4gp - 0pts
Brandon Liswoski - 19gp 11 goals 21 points

NCAA
Veeti Miettinen - 10gp 7 goals 11 points
Nick Moldenhauer - 12gp 2 goals 6 points
Hudson Malinoski - 11gp 7 points
Joe Miller - 5gp 1 goal 4 points
Wyatt Schingoethe - Has not played

Europe
Nikita Grebenkin (KHL) - 30 games, 8 goals 14 points
Semyon Kizimov - 0 points

NHL
Matthew Knies - He's locked in as an NHLer. 15 games - 4 goals 4 assists 8 points

Risers/Fallers - Forwards
  • From the AHL we've seen some pretty sizeable steps forward from some players. Steeves/Abruzzese/Robertson/Holmberg have been point per game guys, Ovchinnikov has put himself back on the map. Tverberg is a darkhorse for a bottom 6 role, unreal forechecker, dog-on-bone type guy.
  • Easton Cowan is genuinely phenomenal. He's having the best draft +1 season we've seen for Toronto prospects in a while.
  • Nick Moldenhauer has been disappointing, Schingoethe/Kizimov are finished, Lisowski likely remains unsigned.
  • Nikita Grebenkin, while he hasn't been as productive as last year, he's still looking like a stellar future piece. He's only 20, and he's been a mainstay in the K for two years now. He's got great hands.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Defence

AHL
Topi Niemela - 11 games 2 goals 7 points
Marshal Rifai - 9 games 4 points
William Villeneuve - 10 games 4 points
Mikko Kokkonen - 10 games 2 points

WHL
Noah Chadwick - 18 games 15 points

NCAA
Mike Koster- 4 games, 1 point
John Fusco - 6 games 3 goals/points

Risers/Fallers
  • Noah Chadwick has had an astronomical rise. He's only 5 points away from his WHL career high. His skating is still suspect, which makes me worrisome about him at the next level.
  • Rifai add a nice element being physical, and hardworking. He strikes me as a guy who can carve himself as a good 7d.
  • Topi Niemela - Building on his past success, showing he can score
  • Mike Koster's season has been massacred by injuries, although he's captain I have a hard time seeing us signing him. 5'9 d who aren't producing aren't likely to get a contract.
  • Kokkonen had a great training camp, he's calm in his own end. I like him.
-------------------------------------------------------

Goalies
Joseph Woll (NHL) - 9 games 0.909 sv%
Artur Akhtyamov (KHL) - 17 games 0.921 Sv%
Denis Hildeby (AHL) - 4 games 0.950 sv%
Keith Petruzelli (AHL) - 5 games 0.877 sv%
Vyacheslav Peksa (ECHL) - 3 games 0.833 sv%

Risers/Fallers
  • Sample sizes are too small for the ahl/echl guys but hildeby is huge, and has looked good. Petru has taken a step back, and peksa seems to be too aggressive for pucks.
  • Woll is an NHLer
  • Akhtyamov has taken tremendous steps forward. Finally establishing himself as a KHler, and starter while he's at it. His size makes me question his future.

KHL

- Firstov and Yurov are doing pretty well for their KHL teams, scoring at .65 P/PG clip (approx).

- Marat not so much after a vg season last year, but had a weird start to his season(new coach) before he got traded. Not ready to throw in the towel with him yet.

NCAA

- Stramel .....ooof

- New draftees Pionk and Jimmy Clark off to nice starts.

- Healey seems to be doing ok with Harvard.

- Peart isn't scoring a lot, but i've caught a couple of games and he looks like an all situations Dman. Lots to like, and I have hopes of him being a top 4 NHL Dman in 3-4 years.

CHL

- Heidt near the top of WHL scoring, following up his strong draft year with an even stronger D +1.

- Haight seems to be doing ok in the OHL, scoring over a P/PG.

- Kumpulainen(nice two way game) and Petrovsky are approx P/Pg with their OHL teams.

AHL

- Hunt, O'Rourke, and Lambos doing reasonably well. All three project to be NHL Dmen at some point, though there are questions as to whether they have top 4 upside.

- Spacek and Masters...too soon to say in their first year.

Ohgren and Bankier hurt.

Most of the Stars notable prospects are in the AHL now.

Quick stats rundown:

Stankoven - 15 points (8 goals) in 12 games to start his rookie pro season

Bourque - 15 points in 12 games

Bichsel - 5 points in 9 games

Christian Kyrou - 4 points in 11 games

Antonio Stranges - 6 points in 12 games

Bourque & Stankoven have been phenomenal to start the season in the AHL. Good chemistry too. Both guys could easily be in the NHL right now.

Bichsel has probably been Texas' best defender as well. Plays on the 2nd PP unit. He's close to NHL ready

Kyrou has been good in my opinion, but recently got his first healthy scratch and hasnt seen powerplay time outside of when Bichsel was suspended. He's got a ton of talent though offensively, that much is clear

Stranges has been very dynamic and dangerous for Texas, but is on the 4th line and has had brutal puck luck (multiple posts hit, etc.). Best player on the 2nd powerplay unit. Production is starting to pick up (4 points in his last 5). He's individually the most dynamic Texas forward I'd say.

Our CHL free agent signings have been really good for Texas too in Kyle McDonald & Chase Wheatcroft. Wheatcroft in particular is a whole lot of fun to watch. Very skilled. I expect his offensive production to pick up quite a bit as the season goes on. He missed training camp with an injury. McDonald meanwhile has 7 points in 12 games.

Over in the CHL, dman Tristan Bertucci, our 2nd round pick from this year had a slow start to the season but since has 12 points in his last 10. Angus MacDonnell is a PPG guy through 16 games. Nothing crazy with those 2 tho

Outside of the Texas Stars though our prospects in the other leagues aren't anything amazing. Aryton Martino over in the NCAA is solid.

Blumel?

I kinda cut it off at 21 or so years old, but he has been very good for Texas for sure. I've liked him a lot more now that he is able to sorta carry his own line. I didn't like him to start the year with Bourque and Stankoven because he's a pretty north-south type of player and isn't always looking to pass the puck. One of those guys I feel has limited offensive upside at the NHL level but is great offensively at the AHL level

TLDR; everyone is awesome and gonna be great, unless they're my rival team's prospects in which case they are overrated and won't be much.

I expect and welcome optimistic reports on prospects - it still serves the purpose of this thread for fans of other teams to get an update on prospects around the league. Just reading through the comments so far I have an appreciation for how the Hawks prospects are doing in comparison.
