In hockey terms, this has been a most disappointing season for the Devils. After drafting Jack Hughes first overall and trading for defenceman P.K. Subban, there was logical hope the Devils were on the rise. Ray Shero was a well-thought-of general manager. John Hynes was a head coach of considerable promise.
Then all hell broke loose. Hynes was fired and then hired in Nashville. And then Shero was either fired or agreed to leave. The story is still a touch fuzzy. And the people who most believed in Mike Grier’s ability to help turn this program around were out the door. There’s no handbook on how to deal with a franchise coming apart.
Mike Grier is still an assistant with the Devils. Brother Chris is GM of the Miami Dolphin. No one can accuse them of doing things the easy way.
Anyone see the Gerbe fight last night? Friggin beautiful. Hard to imagine fighting a guy with almost 2 feet on you and winning.
That dude has low key scraped together a pretty long career in the NHL at 5'4" -- I'm surprised he doesn't get talked about more. Great story, great dude, and a huge a-hole in the best of ways
