How aggressive should the Leafs be at the deadline? Whimper or All In?

Here are the career stats of three centres drafted in the same draft year (2009). It is interesting how many fans want to dump Taveras and how many think that B. Schenn and/or Kadri would be better.

FWIW, Taveras is 26 in centres' scoring this year, Kardri is 42, and Schenn is 58.

I haven’t seen anyone saying he is better than JT?

He’s an ideal/elite 3C id we can get retention to 4-4.5 million.

His line (Blues) is in top 70th percentile in 5v5 goals. Not to mention his ice time vs. Elite competition. His trends will significantly increase on the Leafs. Especially if the Leafs spread out the lines - I think:

Unless you have insider info, you should stop assuming he will be out for the playoffs. And even then, this core lost to CBJ and the Habs. If Matthews is not 100% for the playoffs, you be nuts to go all in with this core. Tell me you saw Matthews and Tavares tied with 23 goals, 60 games into the season.

Mirtle has said multiple times that a deal would have been done if he'd accept the Nylander deal plus a bit more based on the new cap ($12.5m-$12.8m). Kypreos who knows the family, said Draisaitl money, then backed off the next day and said $13.8m. It has also been mentioned in many places that the Leafs have set their ceiling at $13m. If you believe any of that shit and given he has not signed, what does that tell you?

Casual observers and novice Leaf fans don’t realize that Toronto’s biggest downfall in the playoffs for the past half decade has been incompetent coaching, terrible goaltending and a laughable GM who doesn’t have any ability to evaluate or build a championship hockey team.

Shanahan took care of the GM issue last year when he finally brought in a professional to do the job.

Bringing in Berube and Stolarz this year has finally addressed Toronto’s three desperate areas of need.The heavy lifting has already been done - - long before the trade deadline.

Watch what happens this spring. I can’t wait for the core four haters to suddenly leap onto the Leafs bandwagon and proclaim how they’ve really always believed in the core four.

This isn’t even remotely true. The leafs are hesitant to give up assets since they have no idea what this team will look like. The leafs 2026 first round pick is probably one of the most valued first rounders right now. If Mitch and Tavares walk, that pick could be a top 15 pick. Cowan and Minten have value right across the league and so does Greb, Danford and both AHL goalies. CJ has even said teams are interested in those prospects. It’s just a matter of Toronto is willing to give those up for mediocre players or a rental.

I think we are gonna grab Yanni Gourde at a cheaper cost. I know we love Brayden Schenn but he is not worth a first rounder

Yes but that was the plan. The minute they hired Dubas they weren't serious about winning. In 2 years they will be old and quite frankly, no one wants out prospects. None of the skaters are impact players.

And of course they will they have to, they NEED to add a 3C.

You got to remember the deadline is Friday, It's only Monday we are still in the Posturing phase.
