Leaf fans are notorious for living in the past.

Brayden Schenn is 33yr old making $6.5M for the next THREE (3) years. Bumbling through the season with 12 goals and 25 assists and a minus -1. Last year he was a minus -22 and the year before a minus -27.

Brayden Schenn is completely washed up and overpaid. But delusional Leaf fans living in the past are only focused on the fact that he was on a Cup winner six years ago.

Luke Schenn is an even bigger joke. He’s 35yrs old, slower than a glacier and making $2.75M next year. The Leafs went dumpster diving two years ago and literally picked him off the scrap heap. He was essentially out of hockey and unwanted by any NHL team.

His biggest “contribution” to the Leafs mini playoff run two years ago was chirping Tanner Jeannot during a stoppage in play. Morgan Rielly was playing the best hockey of his life and Schenn was along for the ride. That lucked him into Nashville badly over paying him and since then he’s done absolutely nothing.

Quit living in the past. The Schenn brothers are over paid has-beens that aren’t going to contribute anything other than bloated salaries.

Freaking Treliving hinted today that the prices are to high and won't likely make a move.

YOU LISTEN TRELIVING. YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO, TO ALLOW US TO GET A CUP. SCREW THE FUTURE, WE LIVE IN THE NOW!!!!!!!!!

If Tre stands pat, we need a movement to get rid of this clown.

He’s never really been a big deadline guy, not sure that will change now. He will add a 3c and a lower end dman. It’s up to the big boys to win

Please, please, please, just don't send 6 picks out the door and the best playing coming back is Dewar.

I feel like he should try to make an upgrade (3C is obvious) or don't do anything... we have 10 #6 Ds and a million bottom 6 forwards.

I'd be onboard with trying out L. Schenn, the Rielly-Schenn pairing was arguably the best defensive pairing in the playoffs that year (they had insane numbers), and the Tanev-McCabe pairing has been good, so it'd be nice to keep them together.

I’d be down for Schenn.

Rielly-Schenn
McCabe-Tanev
OEL-Myers/Benoit

It’s the 3C who I just can’t figure out what the best option would be. Maybe Jarnkrok? I’m not a fan of having Kampf, Robertson and Holmberg in the lineup past the deadline tbh, but I don’t know how that would happen.

Trade deadline is for depth pieces, big splashes that materially change the composition of your team seldom work out. Focus on a 3c and rhd. 2c players like Schenn will cost too much.

Who would be your best deadline targets if you were to pick?

Who would be your best deadline targets if you were to pick?

I’d go after Mario Ferraro first - - 26yr old right side defenceman, good defensively, throws a ton of hits, blocks a ton of shots and can handle heavy minutes. Still got one year remaining at $3.5Mz

Then I’d target Brock Nelson. He’s a bit older than ideal at 33yr old, but he’s nowhere close to being washed up like Brayden Shenn is. Can you imagine Schenn playing at the Four Nations Cup? Neither can I.

Nelson is a legit 30 to 35 goal scorer. Schenn has never scored 30 goals in his life. He’s also a proven playoff performer with SEVEN (7) game winners in the post season. His contract is $500k less than Schenn and it expires this year, unlike Schenn’s boat anchor with another three years to go. And he’s likely going to cost the same to acquire as Schenn would.

I have no earthly idea why anyone would prefer the overpaid washed up Brayden Schenn instead of Nelson.

If Lou would do it, that would be a killer addition.

Tavares and marner
or
Ekblad, Ehlers and Bennett/Nelson

for same money?

Thoughts?

You are not getting those three players with that money. How hard is it to get one UFA player?

What are the odds we get 3 upper end players and then on top of that do you guys realistically think you’re gonna get Ekblad at anything under 8 million?

Also injuries have to be a major concern for both Ehlers and Ekblad. When’s the last time either of them have played 82?

Absolutely not. If not for his cap hit and him having no value to be able to move him, he should not even be on the team at all, let alone the 3C.

Not really interested in the TDL this year tbh. Prices for mediocre guys is super high. Brayden probably not getting traded now. Who’s out there?? Laughton? Luke Kunin, Mario Ferraro.. ok…w\e like we shouldn’t have to give up a lot for these guys

Yep.

Adding depth helps but your best players need to be your best players or you aren't winning a Cup. We have struggled in the playoffs largely because those players haven't done that yet.

This. Has nothing to do with really depth issues it’s more about our guys not scoring at all in the playoffs. Our PP has been atrocious also. We need Matthews, Willy, Marner, Tavares to be the 4 guys who show up every game and produce if that happens we’ll be fine. Going out and blowing our load on a Scott Laughton isn’t going to be why we go on a run

No he didn't

I think Tanev's brother is coming over.

Hopefully he brings Yanni Gourde with him.

No kink shaming!

It's got A LOT to do with depth issuesI get that the core 4 are the core they make the money and thus are expected to score I get it.

But it can't be ALL on them, you NEED goals and points from other places and We've never gotten that.

Yes Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares they need to produce.

But they have NEVER gotten the support goal from Kerfoot, or Jarnkrok or the 4th line goal from a guy like Kampf, something EVERY team that goes far gets.

This year is the same.

Yes Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares need to produce.

But you need a goal from Knies, McMann, Robertson, Domi, Jarnkrok if he plays, Patches if he plays.

There is going to be probably 1 game every series that either goaltending or depth has to win you.

It can't be ALL about 34, 88, 16, 91

I just can't think of the logic of keeping Minten / Cowan / Danford / first if we can add a big piece to our roster.

Do we seriously think these pieces are enough to be a new "core" of the team like Dallas did with Benn / Seguin? I don't think they are good enough for that. They are complimentary pieces to an elite core. The team is destined to be a bottom feeder in as soon as 3 seasons.

Go for it or we will look at this season as the biggest what if of this era.

They are sure trending in that direction. Question is, do you use all your bullets this year or keep some for the remaining two years? I guess, it would come down to what is available. I would be willing to pay for a stud dman like Dobson or Parayko or Rantanen, not the Schenn brothers.
