Sorry, I don't buy it. I've lived through what this looks like under the Burke / Nonis years of the salary cap era. Treliving is another one of them. He's going to hand out albatross contracts to players who used to be what we need but haven't been in years. It might already be starting if we trade a lot for 33 year old Brayden Schenn.

I also didn't say losing Marner makes us a bottom feeder. It gets us there faster though. Whatever window we had is closed and the team IMO is less likely to win divisional spots. I think the biggest thing that scares me is if Marner walks the org is in damage control and is ready to spend 14M or whatever Marner gets on players... Whether those players are worth those deals or not.

They’ll spend to the cap whether he walks or doesn’t. With a rising cap that’s an advantage they’ll have over some other organizations who can’t afford to. I’ve been watching the Leafs for 60+ years and to me with all their superstar talent, they’re just a team of chokers with too much money going to too few players.

If Brayden Schenn costs Minten and a 1st so be it adding Schenn makes you the deepest team at center in the east nobody could touch Matthews Tavares Schenn down the middle.

Then go get David Savard or Luke Schenn to add some depth because you needed a depth piece before Tanev and OEL went down

Now it's critical you can't have both Timmins and Myers in your top 6 let alone your top 4.

I’m not sure I’d do quite that much, especially since we’d ideally want retention (likely from another team).

That said, I generally agree with the all in sentiment, even if it means we move Minten.

I like Minten as much as the next Leaf fan, but the way I see it, in the next 4 playoff runs Brayden Schenn probably helps us a dramatically more than Minten. And if we don’t win in that time period, this team will be probably be staring down the barrel of a rebuild anyway.

Some of that obviously hinges on how close we get….

If it was up to me, I'm not giving up Minten or Cowan in a package for B. Schenn. It's just not worth it considering Schenn's age and productivity. Minten should be ready to assume the 3C role for us next season at a fraction of the AAV.

I would offer something along the lines of Domi, a 1st round pick and Jarnkrok for Schenn with retention. That's a fair deal for both sides.

Being aggressive doesn’t mean overpaying. I have no issue giving up a lot if the return makes sense.

If it's a 1st and Minten, they need to take bad cap back. Jankrok Kampf Reaves. We need contract spots and another player back as well not just Schenn. It's 3 years.
