The best thing is to ask Marner to waive his NMC, and hopefully move him the hell out.
Honestly I'd look for deals for all 3 of them and if any of them are good, I'd go to them and ask them to waive, if they refuse I'd just leak the trade.

This team needs a new look, it has for nearly 5+ years now

Seats are full and the cash is flowing.

Everything is beautiful in the corporate world. No sensible reason to change anything.
Perhaps the SBA is already booked for May?

NMC: Matthews, Nylander, marner, Tavares, Rielly, Tanev

So everyone else can be traded or waived.
Waiving only gets them around $1mm Cap Space though.
Waiving and getting claimed clears their Cap hit.

Is there a missing piece?

How much would you pay for that missing piece?

If there is nothing that would make them a good playoffs team, then doing nothing makes the most sense.

I won't be impressed if they win a round.
I will be somewhat impressed if they win 2 rounds, and lose to the Champs.

So using a lot of their assets for rentals would be disappointing.
Using a lot of the assets for missing pieces with term I'd be happy as a Leafs fan.

The poll indicates over 50% don't have much faith in this team.

That's cause the guys that need to elevate their game in the big moments don't seem to have the capacity to.
4 Nations is just another example...and no, I don't care about Mitchy's OT goal, there's no 3 on 3 in the NHL playoffs.

Do you care his assists on the tying and winning goals last night?

Let's be real. After the injuries from the real game in MTL. They league gave them a talking to and we got a toned down defensive game. It was 1/4 of what the MTL game was. Nobody even attempted to check Mitch and I mean the whole game

I'm not sure how that's Mitch's fault, that would appear to be team USA's fault because they didn't check him but then again you have an irrational hate for Mitch so I can't expect you to have a clue.

I love Mitch, how could you say that? I love him in exhibition games and games for fun where he can show off all his trotteresqu skills.

Last night could have been any old game compared to the MTL game

 Going to be an interesting day today seeing who doubles down on the special takes. No doubt there’s a few that might want to take the weekend off to regroup.

Everything revolves around Matthews contract. He’s got what? 4 years left. Every year of that contract has to be all in mode. I don’t understand why you hang onto prospects and draft picks.. you csn re-coup them in a few years by trading the core players.

Everything is cup or bust at this point. Cowan isn’t going to an impactful player for us any time soon. Trade him

100% correct. This team even as is will be a Cup favourite. Add to it as much as possible to make it even better.

But don’t they only have enough assets to go “all in” one time, and they have to acquire players that can play for at least two years. I feel a lot better about Matthews and Marner being able to compete today than I did last week.

Whatever they do, they are going to need to move some salary. I don't know how that is thanks to the NTCs handed out like candy.

Their Cap issue is going to continue next year as well even with the increase.

Roster-wise they are close this year - notably a very good blueline and great goaltending - but without a reliable bottom 6 that can produce offense consistently it's going to be difficult for them to go on a deep run.

If they can move Domi and/or bring in a legit 3C with a solid contributor to play on his wing (McMann's locked in on the other side) on a fair deal, then I'd look at it, otherwise do what Treliving seems to have hinted at (at least according to sources?): Look for term.

Which suggests to me he's opposed to an "all-in" approach for the moment, and he should be. Because you don't go all-in unless you already have a championship roster and are trying to overload it.

Every year under Dubas there were big holes in the roster that he tried to patch up at the deadline. Didn't work then, won't work now. Let's see if Treliving agrees.

The big issue with Dubas is he usually gets either with pure rentals or guys past the expiry date. His best acquisition was McCabe. If Treliving can get a guy like Laughton who has another year left and we can move Domi out I’d be all for it. Domino’s 3.5-4 million in a trade would be some nice cap relief

I'd definitely look for an upgrade at 3C. I can see them going for any of a number of players to fill that position: Laughton, Nelson, Schenn, Gourde, ROR.

They can also use another bottom six winger, although that may just be Jarkrok when he returns.

I'd look to move out Domi or Kampf (preferably Domi because Kampf can PK and contribute defensively).

I think Tre will make a move for a 4-6 defenseman or a 6/7.

The Rantanen situation is interesting. He's a big game player and I'd be willing to lose Minten or Cowan to acquire him if it can be done (TOR should definitely want to keep him away from TB if the Bolts have interest in him).

On paper, I like the top six following the progression of McMann and Knies. I think a deep run is possible. Certain guys will have to have a better showing in the playoffs this year than in the past for that to happen obviously.

I would absolutely love to get both Schenn’s but the combined cost is going to be astronomical

It' was a typical game #7 and game 7 are raely the most physical one but the game with highest level of intensity, playing at faster level with even less space on the ice

gm in mtl a typical # 1-4 gm where you trying to intimidate and send a message

I think the fact that the US team didn't win the fights and didn't intimidate us (along the injuries) was why they didn't repeat the stupidity.

A "behave now, children" from a league that never seems to mind pointless violence or deliberate attempts to injure probably didn't carry much weight.
