How many assets would you use for 3+ year term / ELSC player (2026 picks onward) You determine risk

My top two targets would be Kadri & Toffoli at 50% retained salary or more if you involve other teams, and possibly another right-handed top four d-man.
Kadri probably only makes sense if they aren't resigning MM and have a tone of cap space. To get 5 years retention would be prohibitively expensive If they can scratch out a spare $7M next season it should probably be for Ekblad. I like Toffoli but I think I like Hall a little more.

This team does not have the goaltending to compete for a Cup. Don’t waste any high draft picks or blue chips. This team is simply not good enough.

A player that is this good but is moving to his 4th team. I am not sure this club has the chemistry to win with a guy that may not be team first. What if one of the 3 amigo rubs him the wrong way? I think he is getable but unless JT was blown up for the year I wouldn't expect the reward outweighs the risk.
I also think Miller (while not as talented) could bring a Gilmour like presence and intensity the team lacks.

He slots perfectly on the second line and you move JT down.

Knies Papi Marner
Patches Miller Nylander
McMann JT XXX
Dewar Lorentz Holmberg

XXX - trade for a cheap winger. Use a 3rd rounder.

That is team tha can play the heavier game - and can scores goals across 3 lines. Best of all, strength down the middle.

I like Laughton, I think he’s a great fit.

Miller - It’s not going to happen. Fun to play around though.

Blame Dubas. He emptied the cupboards for one playoff series win. WE have nothing to trade to get anyone good.

Year after year after year of trading futures to help this core and we accomplished Jack shit. Lou takes blame too, dealing 2nds for Boyle and Plekanec, but Dubas takes the cake, especially with that Godawful Foligno deal. It wouldn’t be so bad if the players we got stuck around, but nearly every f***ing time they’re rentals.

This deadlines a tough one. I think you need 2 D and a legit middle 6 C

But even with the C, I still don't know how you leverage a third line with Domi and Robertson. They're fine individually, but lacking on D and you don't want to take offensive minutes away from our better talent.

Shanny jumped the shark when he handed to the keys to Dubas. Some of us saw it from a mile away but Shanny had his blinders on.
Well 2 sources so far say marmer has been given till feb 1 to make it clear his intentions
Cant go into 4 nations cup unsigned

Why can't they go into 4 nations cup unsigned? It is going to be more difficult for the Canes to sign Ranta. Can they go into 4 nations cup with Ranta unsigned? What about Ehlers, Boeser, Bennett, Ekblad, Chych. What makes Marner the exception? It is certainly not his goal scoring or heavy game.

The leafs are 2-3 pieces away on forward (3rd line center and 2 middle 6 additions) and at least one dman away. (Top 4)You are not getting 4 pieces this deadline so stand pat.

I don't see how the Leafs are 3 pieces short at forward. A solid 3c would be great, anything else would be gravy.

Other than that a solid top 4 d and we are set.

Getting two pieces at the deadline is not the impossible task you make it seem.

This team has been decimated by injuries all year and yet is in 1st in the division and among the best in the league. They've consistently found ways to win games they would normally lose. This may be our best shot.
