How aggressive should the Leafs be at the deadline? New Poll Added ... apologies

I'm typically never in favor of going all in but this year is an exception. Core 4 is getting in their late 20's, the clock is ticking, and I don't exactly think our prospect pool is lending itself to any sort of second wind later on. Don't even care what they give up, no half measure moves like Dubas acquiring Giordano instead of Lindholm circa 2022 deadline, burn what it takes and get a legitimate team improving piece.

This is a good team. When they get any kind of goaltending they can beat any team on any night and they have two goalies who look better than what they have been able to roll out for a few years. I like this coach more than Keefe and I like the year the big 4 are having more than for a long time. They are actually a big 4 again. Two new forwards, one with term and another pure rental will do some real damage. I know the D could use something too but the cost for a legit upgrade would be too much IMO.

I feel the same. No rentals though, our window should be open for another year or two after this one so a legit piece with term, something along the lines of what the Muzzin trade was a few years ago. Today's version of Muzzin would be perfect actually.

Top Pairing RHD will be very tough to come by considering the Leafs don't have a first this year. Not sure where they stand on moving Cowan/Minten but I'd think they'd have to be in play if that's Treliving's target. (And they may be if Shanny's banking - almost certainly correctly - on a contract extension for himself being tied to real playoff success this year).

A depth RD may be attainable otherwise.

We also can't have Domi as the 3C. Outside of a very brief stretch he's been pretty bad.

Safe bet is Treliving will be targeting a 3C as his top priority (assuming no major injuries between now and the TDL) and that will move Domi to the wing.

I'd be targeting Cates from Philly and Andersson from Calgary. Cates is at .42 points per game for his career with a high end defensive game and is only 27. He could be a home run pick up at 3C if his offense improves even slightly being on the leafs instead of the flyers. Andersson is a top pair RHD so that is self explanatory.

I hate to be my pessimistic Leafs self but I see this team as a mirage. I don't think their position in the standings represents the play I see on ice. Basically, I think they've been lucky. I wouldn't spend any significant assets to "go all in". They need to roll with with they've got. I mean, they already have 4 $11M+ players plus decent goaltending and defense, what more assets do they need? Hard no on my end for going all in. Looks like they need a little defensive depth, that's about it so I picked trading a 2nd rounder in the poll.

Open to anything but trading a 1st or anything named Cowan or Minten. If you are that far away you need to trade 1st and top prospects, you probably shouldn't be trading

I agree and disagree.

I see a mirage, but unless they make major changes to the team a depth defender isn't going to make them legit.

As a mirage team, trading for depth seems like throwing assets away to claim you're doing your GM job.

The core is unchanged, other than Knies is progressing.
Paccioretty, Lorentz are adds, depth players.
Stolarz first time starter, comes with 1 playoffs game (34.5 minutes) under his belt.
