How about an idea to get non playoff players into the playoffs….

I been thinking lately how what a shame it is for some great players that are not getting a shot at some playoff hockey. We got some real elite players missing the playoffs like Sid, Thompson, Dahlin, Pastrnak just to name a few.

So we have the trade deadline where players get moved from teams that are not in contention or just decide to move on for other reasons. What if we made something like a non playoff team player trading deadline. Like teams can pick who they want to add to their team for a playoff run but only from teams out of the playoffs. You can trade your draft picks if you desire but its only an option as a rental scenario as all these players will report back to their old teams the following season.

Have a lower division for teams 17-32 that also crown a winner. Then you have the "mud division" cup and the stanley cup.

It could earn the owners of these lower-end teams some money too, so I think it's a pretty good idea.

The Memorial Cup used to allow each team to add an extra goaltender (from any other team in the league) to its roster for the tournament. This got extra controversial when the host city started to get an automatic bid.

Anyhow, in 1983, WHL league champion Lethbridge was hoping that Mike Vernon would play for them since their starter (Ken Wregget) was hurt. However, Vernon decided to play for the Portland Winter Hawks instead. Vernon sat out the game between Portland and Lethbridge "because of a jammed neck", but there were rumors that the Lethbridge players were going to take him out.

Portland (and Vernon) ended up winning the Memorial Cup, and it was decided that maybe teams shouldn't get to bring in extra goaltenders for the tournament.

Maybe we should just replace the playoffs with an all star game? Or multiple all star games? This way you get to see all of your favorite players. I look forward to the East winning the Stanley cup over the West by a score of 14-12 in game 7.

Thinking outside the box is sometimes needed for great things. For stupid things it's always the main ingredient.

It was discussed million times, the only realistic idea is playoff B for teams that did not make the playoff A and while playoff A prize is Lord Stanley Cup, playoff B prize could be something like Lady Stanley Cup.
