What are the Islanders plan? Retool or Rebuild? Or a combo of both?

Would you trade someone like Horvat and if you do, what kind of return are you looking for?

Age 29-36 years left at $8.5M AAV.

I have an offer but going to wait to see what the comments are for his value first. Does a young center and valuable futures work or are you looking for a 1/1 hockey trade?

I don't think NYI will move what should be a fine contract, even if NYI retool. Rebuild isn't in the cards, and it shouldn't be.

I'm pretty old so this comparison isn't from looking at numbers, but at watching the players - Horvat reminds me a lot of Rod Brindamour. Maybe a bit more speed, and a bit less strength than Rod had. The point is, I think he's the kind of athlete who ages well, and 8.5M for a 2nd line center will be fine.

You clearly don't know Lou Lamoriello. He's too stubborn to understand the terms "retool" or "rebuild."

If he was GM of the Sharks he might trade their first for a nice two-way character forward.

I know who Lou is and they were simple questions.

So trying to acquire Horvat with futures as the prime values is not in the cards right?

Not trying to be a jerk, but if you truly knew who Lou is than you'd already have the answer to your question.

They're 7-3-0 over their last 10 and moving into the wild card spot. I'd say the plan right now is to hold tight on their players.

Don’t mind him. He’s a bit grumpy.

Horvat is in line be captain in a few years, the Islanders may be moving on from Nelson and Pageau soon, and center prospects are not abundant; it doesn’t make a lot of sense to move Horvat

Figured. I do wonder if the Islanders can do a retool or Caps type rebound. I know a good friend here in Atlantic Canada who is a big Islanders fan and we have been talking about he lack of offense the Islanders have had for several years now. It's what is holding back this team
