He agreed to make a Silent Night, Deadly Night movie, but didn't want to make it about Christmas? Sounds like Yuzna.

Definitely something fishy here. The movie's made of skits and ideas thrown out of the Society script too.

Smile: 3/10

Is what it is with the usual ups and downs of someone trying to escape the inescapable. Spoiler: they don't escape.

Smile 2: 2/10

It seems the only point of enjoyment is seeing how everyone interconnects. When you establish that you can't defeat whatever the evil is, sequels seem really pointless.

A quiet place: 3/10

This bored me. My scores might be a bit harsh for this and Smile 1, but I don't agree with myself grading one higher than the other. The monsters and their twitchiness in a world that is noisy as hell...and then their apparent weakness...I just couldn't buy into their premise.

Also, since someone mentioned Possession last page…We talked about it on our Thanksgiving episode. It’s one of my favorite movies and my cohost hadn’t seen it. We talk about Event Horizon and In The Mouth of Madness beforehand…the theme of Thanksgiving episodes is to give thanks to an actor for three of their horror roles. So we were giving thanks to Sam Neill. Mostly to get my friend to watch Possession. Btw…he’s joking in his final assessment. He loves the movie and has mentioned it on subsequent episodes.

It is so interesting how different people respond to it. Art house and more out there movies definitely aren't their usual style. They are more traditional jump scare or slasher horror types. My buddy and his wife tried to watch Possession last week and told me they quit an hour in and the acting was too weird for them and they couldn't hang. It is so interesting how different people respond to it. Art house and more out there movies definitely aren't their usual style. They are more traditional jump scare or slasher horror types. But cool you have a podcast about it.

I watched it a few years ago and didn't care for it, myself. Artsy and "out there" films aren't usually my thing, either, so that tracks.

My buddy and his wife tried to watch Possession last week and told me they quit an hour in and the acting was too weird for them and they couldn't hang. It is so interesting how different people respond to it. Art house and more out there movies definitely aren't their usual style. They are more traditional jump scare or slasher horror types. The way they speak to each other is the thing that instantly drew me to it. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s such a brilliant way to convey how these two people who were once in love can no longer communicate with each other. I tried to explain what I think this was a couple of times and I can never quite get it. It’s almost like they’re having two different conversations….but the words actually work out. It’s more like they have completely out of place tonal shifts with each other from line to line.

And the first half of the movie is surprisingly straightforward outside of those performances. Then the second half happens with doppelgängers and World War III and the scene where she you know what with the you know what…and for the life of me none of that is stranger or more affecting than the way they respond to each other. I told my friend…a kid drowns himself in this movie and it’s not in the top 50 things I think about when I watch it.

Also, Mark watching a video of Anna at ballet class…allowing her to break the 4th wall and stare down the barrel of the camera is more terrifying than anything to me. I don’t know why. It’s unsettling in a way nothing unsettles me. And when he hits her and she looks at him and smiles…or the scene in the subway…her performance is the most unhinged, beautiful thing.

I can’t get enough of this movie.

I didn't consider he drowned himself. I thought he was just hiding and showing he felt unsafe. Interesting take.

I've got a link to Michele Soavi's Deliria, aka StageFright, aka Aquarius - hit my inbox if you want it, it should be active for a day or two. It's not a film I particularly like, but it's kind of a classic, and the quality's very good. With English audio and subs.

Both this and especially The Church are boring as shit.

I’ve owned both and have no f***ing clue how they are regarded as classics. And i say this as a huge fan of Italian horror.....

Just watched this. I enjoyed it, but don't know that it deserves to be seen as a classic. Just lands right in that 5-7/10 range depending on your particular "flavor" of horror desired on a given night. Fun costume for the killer, good looking women, and a surprising amount of gore. Glad I watched it but probably wouldn't watch again in the future. 6/10 for me.

For some reason, Michele Soavi had an aura around him, like he was the upcoming Christ of horror - well, I guess the reason was pretty obvious as he had worked with Argento, Fulci, and both Bava (father and son) - even with Joe D'Amato!
