I watched II and III over the last couple nights. It's an fairly enjoyable series. There were a few things in II that I had a big problem with, the biggest being why did the cenobite Dr. Channard die? He missed Kirsty with his tentacle things and hit the ground, and then blew up...

III I found more solid. The only thing holding me back from saying it was better than II is the new cenobites. I liked the original gang much more, just seemed like they were trying too hard with these ones. Probably will watch IV over the weekend.

Meh storyline needed work but overall I found part II more entertaining and impressive visually then original

Part 3 gets a lot of hate for the cenobites. Most people point out they look like watered down Borg from Star Trek

I enjoyed All the Boys Love Mandy Lane quite a bit.

Which horror films do you all think has the best cinematography?

II and III both completely collapse at the end, IMO.

That's exactly what I thought, enjoying them until the last ~30 minutes. I feel like if the 3rd left out the other cenobites and just had pinhead, it would have been much better. Him wreaking havoc in the club and then her walking through it all were good scenes. If it had been just her against him it would have been stronger, other cenobites added nothing.

huh... great coincidence lol.

I just watched the first Hellraiser the other night as well...

I thought the effects were pretty damn good for a movie from 1987. The blood, skin, etc... looked great. The story was more creepy then scary which I liked. Not enough cenobites but I guess this was just the beginning...

Finally got around seeing Paranormal Activity, the first one. A few tense scenes, but I thought it was a disappointment, after hearing so much about it. Is that the best one or are any of the sequels better?

BTW, will check out Annebelle tomorrow.

Most overrated series out there IMO... I watched 1 and 3, both were pretty crap. Same things over and over through both movies.

Yeah, that's a funny, I pretty much picked it at random.

The next 2 movies will have more cenobites. I just finished the 4th movie, and thought it was quite good. Better than 2 and 3, don't think quite as good as 1. It kind of takes place in space, which is weird, but it's a lot closer to the movie I expected when I started watching the franchise. Pinhead has good chunk of screen time which I liked.

For anyone that has watched them, are the rest of the movies in the series any good? I generally steer clear of straight to video releases and the 4 movies alone seemed like a good franchise run.

I recall one of the more recent ones wasn't terrible. But that's not saying a lot, and the rest are pretty terrible, really only for fans of the series.

I generally only watch 1, 2 and 4.

I love the old Universal movies. Frankenstein, Wolfman, etc. Also the real cheezy MST3K style sci-fi pics. And Jaws is my favorite all time film.

Not so much a fan of slasher films.

The worst is Hellraiser: Revelations

No Doug Bradley and just absolutely embarrassing attempt at a Hellraiser movie

Makes the bad entries in series look like the Godfather in comparison

Just watched Silent Hill again, after of couple years. Love it.

Talk about gory/chilling movie. One of the best movie adaptions from a video game.

I also really enjoyed Silent Hill, not sure why it got so much hate (at least from people I know) I keep meaning to check out Silent Hill: Revelation, but it seems to have worse reviews than the first.

I also watched Last Days on Mars last night...it wasn't very good. Didn't know anything about it going in except it was a sci-fi horror type movie, but still didn't expect basically just a zombie movie on mars. Pretty disappointing because sci-fi horror is one of my favorite types of movies.

I watched Evil Dead 2 last night. It's been a while since I saw the first one, but I remember liking it, in spite of the bad effects and over acting. This is more of the same, but it's still just a really good scary movie in spite of those things. It's insane to think that someone can't make a movie as good as these old ones with all the special effects and way better tools they have today. Seems like directors had to rely more on their camera work and atmosphere back then, and now it's just throwing in as many effects as possible without any of the atmosphere. I remember not liking Army of Darkness much (been a really really long time) I think it had too much slapstick in it, whereas the Evil Deads had a bit, but balanced it much better.

I was fairly confused at the beginning though, it seemed like Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are the same movie. Wikipedia said the beginning of 2 is a recap of 1, so did they just cut out a bunch of stuff (including the other 2 people that were in the movie) to get a quick recap in?

I liked Silent Hill as well and yes Revelation is s steaming pile of ****. I can't really put my finger on any one thing. It's just a hot mess. Please watch it. Tell me what you think. It's got triangle head spinning a carousel. I don't even.

In the last few days I have watched:

The Europa Report - Actually didn't mind this one. Nothing outstanding or anything but decent enough. I thought the "documentary style" was interesting. 6.5/10

The Last Days on Mars - Yeah, kind of with others on this one. I like Liev and it was mentioned in this thread so I watched it. Mediocre at best zombie flick. 4.5/10

Here Comes the Devil - Decent. A creepy burn throughout the movie. I thought it would be better to be honest because I think I remember a glowing review from AICN which I know is sketchy at the best of times. Still, kind of an unnerving movie and any kind of movie like this involving kids creeps me out. 6.5/10

Absentia - Thought it was alright. I could have did without the sister's constant low cut tops haha. The two cops, especially the skinny one, need acting lessons though. Reminded me of the X-Files episode "Folie à Deux". 6/10

V/H/S/2 - I preferred the first one, but this isn't bad. The cult story was wild and the best one which probably made it a better movie than it is for me. Cult story - 8/10, the rest was 5/10

Watching Europa report.. Can't stand watching Sharlto without that accent.

Seriously, I can't even listen to him.

for anyone that hasn't seen it... i recommend "in the mouth of madness"

haven't seen it in years but remember it being very good.

I'll second this recommendation. Decent Lovecraft-esque story, IIRC.
