Kings News: Holland officially GM

Now there’s a very specific British colloquialism! My other half is from that part of the UK.
I learned about when looking into the white stripes song icky thump, i wondered where he got that name.. his brit wife said "ecky thump" to him one day, and he made a song around it...hilarious

At $11M Doughty is paid like a top 3-5 dman. Since he’s been making that money he is barely in the top 20. It’s been a huge waste of capital by any realistic measure. Only sentimental fans and organizational mouthpieces try to defend it.

Alright, now we're going too far.

-He was on his way to one of his top-3 seasons before getting hurt in 2022.
-He rightfully received Norris votes each of the next two seasons, scoring 15 goals/50 points while handling massive shutdown/defensive minutes and munching ice time amongst the best in the league despite his age.
-He was rushed back this year and subsequently sucked, but this entire forum is coloring the last half decade with that. He's been a top-15 defenseman at worst for the last while.

Yes, he needs his minutes and injury managed especially now. Dude has played a LOT of hockey. Overpaid for most of the contract, sure. But the last few pages are talking about him like he's barely been a serviceable defenseman rather than becoming mortal late in his career after being one of the top-3 of his generation.

No he rushed back himself to play in the 4 Nations. He didnt do his team any favors playing hurt. If he sat out until the playoffs like a lot of guys on other teams then they could have loaded up at the deadline and had a 4th line and third pair the coach would have actually played.

I've said this before, and it’s true again in this case: this forum has a very warped view of age—both at the beginning and end of players careers.

Players who are the same age as others who have long since retired or declined significantly are criticized for not being star players, while at the beginning, players who are the same age as others contributing meaningfully around the league are treated with kid gloves.

Drew Doughty is six months younger than P.K. Subban, PK was a Norris winning defenseman who retired three years ago.
