Kings News: Holland officially GM

That's Trevor Lewis, still a King in pic 2 . I swear he's gonna be given another contract by Luc.
Hiller looks like he just found out he still has a job.

Again he just gave more dithering, rambling answers to questions. Even his prepared statement was poorly delivered. It’s embarrassing.

Holland at least presented a composed, articulate image. First impressions, as a person, were positive from my perspective. He answered questions well. But it’s what he does that matters.

My read was that the retention of Emerson etc is Luc’s call. Holland hasn’t had time to properly evaluate any of that stuff. The only view that might be his own one is Hiller IMO.

When DL was brought in, he did the same thing, kept everyone until after the draft. Then a mass firing starting with AL "I'll never pass up a 6'-8 forward who is soft as F in the first round or try and move up" Murray and the entire staff.

When DL was brought in, what was his contract length?

Yep. That's Trevor Lewis on the bottom right.

After he's re-signed, I'm expecting Holland to say stuff like:
"He plays hard"
"Veteran leadership"
"Blocks shots"
"Gets pucks in deep"
"Knows what it takes to win a Stanley Cup"'

Then he'll ramble on about his days in Detroit.

I don’t know if this is partially directed to me, I love Kopitar the player but I hate Kopitar the captain. Don’t get it twisted.
Nah, not directed at anyone. It is hard to know what to do with Kopitar. Make him the third or second line center.idk, but he should retire a King.

I don't think people hate him, but I do think his legacy and name are getting tarnished by a franchise that still wants to play him #1 dman minutes.

We SHOULD be able to celebrate the last years of Kopitar and Doughty but they're getting skated like they're 24 with predictable results and people realize the franchise/coaching/mgmt refuses to reduce their roles so all we can hope for is a trade I suppose

Watching an exhausted ready to puke kopitar throw a hand grenade for Doughty to not-hold at the blueline to end our season was pretty emblematic
I agree. They got to figure out how to put Kopitar in a lesser role. Third line center or something.

We all know that's not going to happen. It still hinges on Byfield whether he replicates last season or he takes another big step. Hoping for the latter.

Yeah the the zero series wins under his captaincy have been amazing.

If the Kings had balls they’d ship out Kopitar and Doughty for something tangible and younger.

They serve no purpose for the Kings and some bum team would probably pay a bit for them just for their name plates.

Woah man, you're not thinking in terms of a capitalistic business. Kopitar and Doughty sell jerseys and put people in seats. Without those legacy players, profits will fall.

Sound of hockey already reported that the Kings dropped -4% in attendance last year, that goes up if those two get shipped out. Does AEG want to sign off on sending away those assets when the team finished with most points in franchise history?

For the record: I agree with you. I feel long term it would be beneficial for the team to realize they will not best teams such as Dallas, Edmonton, Winnipeg. But this is a profit driven league.

What the King's really need is a new marketing star. He doesn't have to be an actual star, just a good player the King's can overpay & run a media campaign on to convince Southern California he's a STAR! Where could we find a player like that?

I agree, but this is not only a Kings thing but a NHL problem. Sooo many players are just boring to listen to and don't give a lot of personality when it comes to interviews. How many times have you heard the following:

- we gotta work hard and get back on our game
- we need some good shift there and have to keep pressing
- we're getting pucks in deep

If Byfield was a 100 point player, he could have been what you were looking for to sell regular folk on watching the game. But he looks to be a 50-60 point forward; not nearly good enough. In today's NHL, marketable stars (since they lack charisma on the screen) have some of these stats

- 40+ goal scorers, year after year.
- 100 point players.

Not many of those. We could start to build towards the future with a "see the future" if we were consistently drafting top 5, maybe? Did we have something like that when Doughty and Kopitar were younger? But ask Anaheim how that is working out for them. People pay for winners.

Bro...save your breath on explaining the 'this is still a business' concept to these guys, their franchise mode on Xbox doesn't include the need to sell jerseys.

listening to the press conference I could not for the life of me get an idea of who Holland is. He just said a bunch of generic stuff. Any oilers fan or someone who knows stuff let me in on this dude.

Totally disagree

Winning, more than anything, sells tickets.
We have heard the argument for years that LA NeEdz StAr PlAyErz!! The team was never more successful than it was post the first cup.
We had Palffy from 99 on.
Attendance spiked after the Kings won the play off round in 01 and then went to 7 against Colorado because the fans thought there was a chance to finally win, you can see interest wane as they get further from the playoff win
We had Kopitat from 06 on and Douhgty from 08 and they had little effect on attendance , winning did

Winning is a leading indictor for ticket sales. The best team on the ice means the most money for the franchise.
The Vegas model for being ruthless as f*** has been far more productive than holding on to Doughty and Kopitar.
See for yourself

The Kings have won 0 rounds. Vegas has won 13
