Kings News: Holland officially GM

I don't want Blake employed by the organization in any type of role, so I'm still happy he is gone.

Not thrilled to see posters becoming Blake apologists all of a sudden because the replacement hire isn't blowing their skirts up. Now it is all Luc's fault and Blake is actually a good GM? All the bad moves are on Luc and all the good moves are on Blake? GTFO with this BS. Even if it were true, Blake is complicit and it is great that he is gone.

As for Holland, well, it is still exciting to me to have an outsider enter the organization as opposed to the horribly executed Lombardi impersonation these clowns just put us through for eight years. Going with "your guy" doesn't always work, as we saw with Blake/T-Mac, but it did work for DL/Sutter and the Sutter hiring was generally panned right here on this very board.

So that puts us in two likely outcomes: it is a great hire and we are happy since that means the Kings are doing well, or it is a disaster and Luc has to wear it which hopefully leads to his dismissal.

I don't want to gut the pipeline, but one of Blake's biggest blunders was not knowing when to cut bait on prospects to move them for a sure thing, and the one he actually moves winds up being a #1RHD. You can't just dump all of your futures for short-term fixes, but the future lineups put together of 12 current prospects never comes close to happening.

They aren't going to rebuild or retool right now and to expect that to happen is living in fantasy land. I also don't think that means trading Greentree, but this late 1st coming up is most definitely in play, as is the 2026 1st. I think Holland will give Marner the keys to the Brinks truck. If it appears he will test free agency, he'll flip a draft pick for the rights to negotiate and give him the max deal. Has the playoff vanishing act rep, but he is still at 62 points in 67 playoff games.

Kopitar's contract comes off the books after next season, which would play into a Marner deal. Got to pay Kempe. I think Holland would look at Kopitar and tell him he can come back, but it is discount time. Can't see Holland being a Luc puppet and the Kings need someone in that chair that has neither a connection to the 2012-14 squads, their number in the Crypto rafters, or both.

I haven’t seen Blake apologists. I think it’s pretty well known that Blake was out of his depth, and Luc is an idiot.

It’s been well known that Blake was Luc’s puppet. Luc had his arm wedged up so deep that there’s quite literally nothing that could change.

But it doesn’t change the facts that puppets and puppeteers are both stupid.

Now with Holland as GM and VP?? I don’t see any good that will come from anything with Luc’s cancerous touch spreading to every part of this organization.

I would have preferred an AGM from a front-office that has had some success or a player agent with his finger on the pulse of the current NHL. But this could have ended up way worse than Ken Holland.

The fact that it's not one of Emerson, Murray, Yannetti or even Futa at least signals that Luc knows he needed a new voice, even if it's still the win with 11&8 strategy. This teams front-office has made some very poor decisions the last few years, and none of these guys deserved a promotion.

I am curious to see who he brings in, and especially to see who his top lieutenant , who presumably will be in-line to take over in a couple of years is.
It's just more of the "We were right there. Going for it now BS." Nothing changes until Robitaille is fired and the last remnants of the cup winning players are swept aside.

I'm not super excited about this choice, but I am not opposed either.

I know a lot of people knock his final years in Detroit, but think it is pretty difficult to evaluate GM's without knowing the motivations of ownership. I do remember how much that playoffs streak was discussed and it always seemed that a lot of the moves were made towards keeping that streak going.

As for the Oilers, I think he did a hell of a job rebuilding what Chia destroyed. His big mistakes there were Nurse and Campbell. The Nurse signing was heavily influenced by the Seth Jones contract and had Holland in a tough spot. Would he have been better off letting him walk? It's possible, but I don't think ownership would have been interested in losing their number 1 dman and going into the next season with Tyson Barrie leading the Dcore. Campbell was a mistake, which sucks because I liked him so much, but goalies are just difficult.

I think he is an average option, but I do have hope that he can establish some independence from Luc, which a brand new GM might not have.

If it a 2-3 year deal with an AGM that's going to take over for him once his contract is up, then its something I can live with it, even if I don't necessarily like Holland as the choice.

There's a couple things I don't like about this.
1. Is that I think Holland is past it and think we need a more progressive and forward thinking vision for this team.
2. I'm worried about the potential long term out look, even if they hire an AGM to eventually take over. Luc has made it pretty clear they want to contend for the cup and contend for the cup with Doughty and Kopitar. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't get rid of them, but this line of thinking makes me worried for the future of guys like Greentree, Clarke, George/Hammer and potential 1st round picks and I'd even throw someone like Wooley into the mix as well after the season he's had. My concern is that you have a GM with no ties to the franchise and his marching orders are to get a cup that he's going to full on focus on a veteran team and young guys be damned without any consideration for the guy that's going to replace him for chasing a cup that has maybe a 1-2 year window

Yes

I wonder when and how we find out the length (TWSS)

I wonder if a guy like Friedman leaks it or if it's a local guy like Russell or the Mayor

Still disappointed this group didn't even bother to interview a woman for the position. We need to take opportunities when they're available & not just talk about change & kick it on down the road.

Glad to have an actual GM for the first time since Lombardi.

Now trade Doughty for Marner's rights!

If Holland's first move is to fire Jim Hiller, then consider me a fan. This team will go nowhere with that idiot behind the bench.
Was just about to post the same.. thats where my mind went to - to try to feel good about something. Id be fine with Woodcroft, he actually adjusted well vs the klueless Koala in the playoff matchups. The downside is that the org would smell of a combination of Luc and Edmonton - and that is not an odor anyone would enjoy.

I don't think Holland was brought in to fire Hiller.

Holland was brought in to make a final grab for a cup with Kopitar and Doughty. So he's not trading them either.

If he's bringing in his son to take over long-term, he might not mortgage the future either.

I just think he's going to be a lameduck hire, knowing he's playing on borrowed time, but the outcome won't affect his future employment.

I'm not saying he won't make a big move, but he's not driven by trying to save his job.
