A recent 2nd round pick with the chops to play a bottom six role, and the skill to play a top six role. Tocchet doesn't seem to like him, but I'd rather keep him over Tocchet, if I'm being honest.

You'd rather keep a guy who scored at a rate of 20% than the Jack Adams winning coach who finally turned the Canucks into a playoff team?

Very big buy low potential here, Hoglander has all the talent needed to be successful, but his play away with the puck is lacking.

Hw lost the trust of Tochett, but should still get a good player in return

And specifically as a head coach, maybe Hoglander would have made an excellent coach, who knows.

Shoulda just kept Podkolzin if they were gonna move Hog (and Sprong)

Even with all 3 being moved, there's still a logjam at forward. Hoglander is one of the few pieces of value at the NHL level that the team can afford to move for a much needed defence upgrade.

He's lost some of his shine from last year. However, that speaks more to the Canucks roster composition and deployment. Tocchet likes his Skill-Pair+Utility guy deployment. That doesn't leave a lot of prime minutes for him to capitalize.

I'm prepared to let him go so that he can be rejuvenated with a coaching staff that doesn't look at him as a liability.

What does he return? /shrug. I don't have high expectations other than we try to acquire something Tocchet will use.

I'll say this, Hoglander, alone, does not return enough to resolve this teams need to push Myers, Soucy etc down the icetime list.

The problem is that those types of players are a dime a dozen. Lots of middle six guys fall through the cracks after their ELCs, because that ~$3m cap hit is excessive for similar production you can get from a waiver claim or another team's cap dump.

If I'm a rebuilding team, why am I paying even minimal assets for a $9m commitment over the next three years? When I can just as easily scoop a player in the same manner that San Jose acquired Jake Walman.

The GM that 'buys low' on Hoglander lacks vision IMO.

They need a dman and a center (but I would say a dman more).

Look at the teams who could use a bottom 6 forward and have a UFA dman to spare.

New York - Lindgren (but would need a replacement dman in a separate deal).
Columbus - Provorov
Pittsburgh - Pettersson

I don't see a center that NYR or CBJ could realistically offer. Penguins could offer Glass, DOC, or Acciari.

Canuck fan here. Honest low down on Hoglander.

1. Very undisciplined when he doesnt have the puck. Defensive Awareness is low and can take dumb penalties
2. 3 different coaches have soured on him...Travis Green, Bruce B, Tochett
3. Can be a wizard with the puck, highly gifted offensively
4. Buzz saw on the forecheck and relentless motor. Gets under the opponent skin alot
5. No off ice issues, highly motivated player. Came into camp in the best shape out of anyone on the team.
6. Given top 6/9 minutes with pp1/pp2 time I think he would easily be a 20/20 player with a chance to very much boom.

IMO he is a waaaay better player than someone like Kuzmenko who found himself in the similar Tochett doghouse.

Cost controlled, young, and can pot a team 20-25 goals. He will be in demand.

Still one of the dirtiest Michigan Ive seen due to the fact it was in constant motion.

Hoglander has magic hands but he needs to play in a system that will give him freedom.

For those that are interested:

The Canucks need:

1. Top 4 Dman to upgrade on Soucy or Myers
2. 3rd line C upgrade on Bleuger/Suter
3. Assets they can use to help them obtain the above

Vincent Iorio is an interesting name out of the caps.

Local BC kid. I dont think he would be a current upgrade on Myers, Desharnais or Branstrom though but can potentially be a nice prospect to add to the cupboard.

Can Caps fan elaborate more on him and maybe give a scouting report.

Pettersson @ 50% + choice of Lizotte or Acciari or DOC
for
Hoglander + 2025 1st
Disgusting no

How are “multiple” teams interested? He is not a good player. Maybe they are in exchange for a 3rd round pick.
24 goals last year, all at even strength. Not good though. Excellent insight.
