im curious who this was…

A very attractive and well endowed lady, with a top notch plastic surgeon.

I'm sure Montreal would be THRILLED if there was any team that would take Hoffman off their hands for no return whatsoever.

However, it's more likely for their to either be a buyout, a trade in which they're taking similar salary back, or sending an asset along with Hoffman to get rid of him.

FWIW as a Dallas fan, I'd rather bring back Riley Smith than go after Hoffman.
That might be fine as well, I just floated this out there to see what the market is concurrent with a discussion I had on the Dallas boards. I'm open to other trade options or free agents.

With Smith though you do have to wonder, since he is a UFA. What type of a deal will he be looking for? What type of term will he be looking for? Will he be looking for protections? If he wants a 4-5 year deal at a similar rate or even higher, with some sort of protective clause like a partial NTC, then I think going after Hoffman is the better option because you don't want to get tied to an older player for a long period of time without any ways to rescue yourself as a club.

Just a thought I had. What would you (MTL) ask for? You can be as reasonable or unreasonable as you want, but if it's more on the unreasonable side it's just less likely to actually happen.
Are you drunk? You could get Hoffman for free. Or ask the Habs to attach a high pick. That’s a negative value contract.

Actually the contract is great, it's the one reason why you would sign him. His contract gives the club max flexibility.

He has no protections built into his contract, so he could be traded at any moment the club wants to trade him, to any team the club wants to trade him to. Furthermore, even if he panned out so poorly that other clubs wouldn't be interested in trading for him, his contract only last for 2 more years, so you wouldn't be locked into it for very long. If he performs well, obviously, you can keep him at his rate.
