Just turned the Rangers game on in Arizona a bit ago, how many fans there are for the Rangers? You would almost think the game was at MSG

Never

Can you hear me now?

Opposing team's fans filling up the building in Arizona isn't exactly a new thing.

Rule 78.4 says that

A goal shall be scored if the puck is put into the goal in any way by a player of the defending side.

Rule 78.5 says that

Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:
(i) When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick.

So I guess the argument is that the defender didn't put the puck in because he didn't have possession. But there is nothing in the rule book that I can find that says anything about the defender having possession.

Edit: I was wrong. It was the right call.

Rule 67.6
Disallowed Goal - A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck with his hand into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck and it is deflected into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official. When the puck enters the net on a clear deflection off a glove, the goal shall be allowed.

They're in a tight playoff race right now.. Reverted to old ways to try and win games.

_____

Entertaining 1st period.. Feels like a playoff game thus far!

Have you seen our powerplay? Last thing we should be doing to get an edge is dive for calls.

Calgary seems to be good at the minor interference, hooks and holds that don't get called. Lots of small bits and pieces that the refs would want to let go to keep the game going. No wonder they're the least penalized team in the NHL.

LA won 2 cups using that method, not surprised other teams are starting it too. Would love the refs to start calling the small stuff more
