Hockey Canada Scandal and Rape Trial

I dont think its a stretch for a jury to understand how one girl might be afraid to say no or physically resist in a situation where shes out numbered 5 to 1.

The whole open invitation for anyone to come up to the room is going to be crucial in the case. The text he sent out essentially promised sex to anyone who would come to the room....did she really give blind consent to that? Like no matter who walked through that door? Im not sure if a jury is going to buy that.

This goes beyond a normal two person consent question. The group dynamic makes it a lot more complicated.

Guess I shouldnt judge...but still cant wrap my head around why all these guys would wanna share one girl...esp without thinking about how itd feel for her.
These guys don’t care about the girl and what she wants or feels. They’re pigs we normal men can’t understand. That’s why they’re on trail for sexual assault. Imo these guys, and all those associated with them, are bad people. They lack a moral compass.

I’m not saying to speed run a trial like it’s a video game. There’s no reason why it takes as long as it does.
I guess people want to make sure they are given a fair chance to tell their side of the story and prove their side. It’s crazy that people want that huh?

The fact that the one dude quit hockey entirely and started learning the construction trade tells me he knows that once all the facts come out, he’s not gonna have a job in pro hockey, in NA at least.

I’m sure they will all be welcomed in the KHL regardless

Have a feeling they will all do hard time, some much more than others
Which player did that? Will any construction company want to hire someone like this?

Why would a construction company care about a guy’s criminal past? The public won’t know who they are hiring. It’s not going to impact the company. If the guy can go the job that’s all that matters.

A new piece of evidence from the Crown's opening statement is that there were up to 10 different guys at times in the room. In the civil settlement three were 8 players that were named so there could be 2 other potential witnesses that were in the room.

"You will also hear that Mr. McLeod went into the hallway and invited people into his room, where [E.M.] still lay, naked, under the covers of the bed,” Donkers said. “Before long, more and more men began arriving in room 209. There were up to 10 men inside this standard-sized hotel room at different points in the night.”

Is that why Makar was called as a witness? He was one of those guys who came into the room? This could be very bad for some of these guys.

There were 13 players that are on the witness list, I'm not going to speculate who were the other players in the room because I have no idea.

Neither do I know. But didn’t Makar say he wasn’t even in the city? Why is he on the witness to what occurred list? Lots doesn’t add up. Imo there will be some very revealing evidence (facts) that come out during this trial. Some current NHL clubs are going to have to make hard choices.

Especially for the victim.
Can’t imagine the trauma (relived over and over) this young woman is going through. No matter the result of the trial this girl will suffer for her whole life. Very sad, really. Too bad these guys couldn’t think of anything but their selfish desires. Which, imo, were sick. Crossing swords is yuk.

thats not your point your all over the thread saying that a rape happened ...

lmao fact is you dont know that a rape happened or that there is a rapist or a rape victim. your playing at being objective but just own it its very obvios what your position is. if someone thinks the players are innocent they need to wait for the trial but you can say the players are guilty because you got the cape. just dont pretend you didnt decide what happened already
Yeah, it sucks when people reach conclusions without knowing the facts. Doesn’t it?

No it isnt, all i was saying is this is a serious serious matter, a man who is accused for rape is
ruined for life by men and women
, so there cant be guilty verdict based on words alone, but
it is happening here in sweden cause of the laws that has been pushed and the
tendancy to belive victims always.
I promise you this is not why it's a serious serious matter

I did reply to earlier this morning about Makar but he never said he wasn't at the event and there is team picture online showing him in it. He said he wasn't part of the alleged group sexual assault

Colorado’s Cale Makar, a Norris Trophy winner and playoff MVP in 2022 when the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup, said he was told not to comment on the ongoing investigation. Makar was not in London for the Hockey Canada Foundation fundraising gala after which the alleged incident happened.
Not sure as to accuracy of this reporting

I can't imagine how it is to go thru all of this.

So you need three years to set this up? It’s crazy you want to keep this process going for years.

The delays in Canadian courts aren't ONLY due to the courts being slow. Don't get me wrong, they are, but if you've ever participated in a trial you'll find that lawyers very often continually ask for more time until the court loses patience and refuses to grant any more.

This can be for a variety of reasons, like difficulty finding a witness or sorting through evidence, or conflict with other trials. Shit sometimes they just delay because it gives more time to try and come to a deal or because it gives more time for witnesses to "not remember" things. There are lots of reasons to delay trial as long as possible depending on which side you are on.

I am NOT saying that is what happened here. Just adding my .02 when it comes to court delays.

All i know , if i truly believed i was innocent I would want to go on the stand and defend myself with my story.

This is truly a black eye for hockey Canada, Whoever gave under aged kids booze at the gala and anyone that tried to cover this up. , Should be a lot more people being held accountable.

You clearly didn't pay attention in your legal courses.

In all common law countries, including the US, a defendant is found guilty or not guilty. Proving innocence is not actually the object.

If someone is found not guilty and wanted to sue for defamation they could, but the not guilty verdict does not really help. You would actively have to prove that the accused lied intensionally.

Most states and countries have a very high burden of prove for this type of defamation suit. Promotion of victims rights.

It more likely to see situations where people are found not guilty criminally but liable in civil court.

OJ Simpson is the prime example of this. He was found not guilty under the "reasonable doubt" standard in his criminal trial. He was then found liable under the "preponderance of the evidence" standard in the civil case.
You are talking to dummies. Good luck getting them to understand the difference between not guilty and innocent.

I know what you mean, my point is that this shouldn’t take 3 years regardless.

When a woman is smiling along, begging men to perform sex acts on them, not physically trying to stop them in any way shape or form, smiling and saying it's all consensual on video, and then leaving...at what point do you admit the players did nothing wrong? She made no complaint and was consistently asking them to have sex with her that night.

She might not be at fault, but how are they? When you make no effort to put a stop to something....
Wasn't it claimed that she was crying at one point and tried to leave the room but they tried to get her to stay?

Can anyone find the full writeup of what happened that night? I can't seem to find it anymore.

They were all hiding from the public eye with all this until last year.
