Confirmed with Link: HNIC No Longer to be Televised on CBC

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
With the new TV contract coming into effect CBC will no longer televise hockey games produced by Sportsnet. The original 12 year contract had Sportsnet produce HNIC on CBC which they would receive the advertising dollars and CBC have their programming advertised during the games

All hail the private sector, they will save us from our sins

Is this the end of Ron MacLean?

Hahah... 1.6B a year for CBC... you can't make that shit up.

That's a real shame. HNIC been mainstay in Canada forever.

What money will do. They want us to pay for the games
I feel like a part of my childhood was just murdered. Many decades ago a young me would spend many a late night sitting in my attic tuning in HNIC from across the border. A generous amount of aluminum foil with a set of rabbit ear antennas to watch CBC on a 13 inch black and white TV.

Virtually all Canadians did similar. I am hoping they come to some kind of agreement to keep it on. Been there since 1952

I honestly think the move is Molson creating a habs streaming app (with in depth content plus games) with their own English/French broadcasters and barring Rogers from broadcasting any habs game including in the playoffs.
- All Habs games
- All Rocket games
- All Trois Riviere games
- Exclusive content like classic games and player profile specials.
- Daily Habs centric show w/ highlights analysis and exclusive access at practices etc.
- Find a way to show games from our favorite prospects...ie U of M games for Hage or KHL games of Zhar.

Make it a tidy little streaming service app you have to download. Watch all the content at your own pace.

I refuse to pay for NHL centre ice. But I'd pay the equivalent for that it a nano second.

Rogers has the National TV rights so when they show the Canadiens nationally it would be in violation of the contract signed if they showed the game on a steaming app not run by Rogers. Also, TSN has the local English TV rights that Molson has signed. So again he can't show the Canadiens locally in competition against TSN on English as it would be in violation of the contract.

i thought i dispised rogers a ton with that fool pelley firing masai ujiri, now i have further reason to root against everything this company puts its hand on

Finally, turn CBC in and auction it to private ownership ASAP!
