Agree with all of that but why is so much emphasis put just on 5 on 5 and it seems like PP points are somehow less worthy. Our high dollar stars were awful on the PP and they are now golfing. Yes Edmonton shines on the PP and they are moving on. Even with a mediocre PP we are probably moving on

I agree that we have a big issue on the PP and PK, special teams were terrible, should have been done in 4 with those numbers.

And 5v5 is more important because you can't rely on the refs to give you any PP time.

If PP time dries up for Edmonton, Draisaitl turns into a non factor for example (at least over the last 3 years where he is basically an even player at 5v5).

No one is saying the core was good, but the support also was terrible.

We tried to solve our scoring issues with bad players who are tough.

Domi is a skill guy before you mention him, I don't think anyone cares if the skill guys come with "snot", that is a great combo.

The snot did not help the final result but was way more fun to watch.
Basically we had 5 years of Dubas shuffling the perimeter players totally snoring the snot, now we had a GM that tried the snot and we had the same result. What’s left after you take all that away is the 4-5 guys taking all the money.

Treliving, IMO, is not being forced by MLSE management. Its a billion dollar franchise money is never the issue.

Treliving can easily wait out Marner's contract instead of taking shit in return. Or he could get the same return as Tkachuck and then flip it converting into draft capital. Treliving was forced to sign Huberdeau by flames ownership. Flames ownership was getting involved in hockey decisions and Treliving just wanted out from there. Don't think that is the issue here with the Leafs unless Shanahan is forcing Tre to re-sign Marner. Hopefully new CEO tells Shanahan to F-OFF

TBD of course. He was also just hired in the middle of summer and did not over invest in hard cap signing bertuzzi and domi to one year deals so its not that bad IMO. The Kampf contract may be a bit on the high side but can be dealt if needed.

honestly first role of business should be Treliving letting Marner's agent know that they will not be re-signing him. Is he willing to waive? If not then you play these games.
