Post-Game Talk: Hire a PP "Consultant"

I watched the first two periods. This IMO wasn't the no show against the Flyers. The Rangers looked like they tried. They just looked like they didn't have the firepower. I didn't see the third, but after the first 10 minutes or so when Pitt skated circles around us, the game looked even.
 
I refuse to believe in this team until we can win a season series agianst Pittsburgh. Adding Nash was nice but this team is offensively Pejorative Slured against good teams.

You want to know what the problem is? It's not even a coaching issue. It doesn't matter who comes in. This team wasn't built to score. Our entire blue line is horrific offensively. Del Zotto is decent. Everyone else is bad offensively. If you think anyone else is good, your standards have been lowered from seeing such poor play for so long.

Also this team flubs passes regularly. Then you watch a team like Pittsburgh and it's like they have puck magnets built into their sticks. We're a wanna be offense compared to them.

And ALSO if you want to know why our power play sucks here's the two primary reasons:
1.) They don't work the offensive zone as much as they should. Tonight they even stood completely still. Embarassing.
2.) Teams know how to defend us because as a team they know we blow hard at passing so they simply rush the puck carrier and generally this causes a turnover.

Literally the only thing that could help our offense/PP would be to get a shot from the point for either deflection or rebound goals because this team is too offensively Pejorative Slured to do anything with real skill consistently.

I mentioned it a week or so as a joke, but we really do need a 'former/could have been Ranger" official thread so that people can post all that crap in there and leave the rest of us alone

That's why I thinkwe're in trouble. Truth is, offensively, unless getting Kreider and Callahan back makes a huge difference, and barring trades, up front we don't have the horses.

I actually think Boyle looked pretty good tonight, but if he's your best player, you're in trouble.

We looked fine against Boston in the second game. The team sucks in all aspects against the Pens. Just the team they can't beat. I'll be shocked if we win 1 game this year against them.
 
Honestly, I think Pittsburgh is tailor made to counter our system. The same way we are made to counter certain teams (like Philly last year).
 
Man it would be nice to have someone to make those passes Malkin and Crosby make (or Nylander made). I mean Richards can call himself a playmaker, but how many times have we seen him set up someone like Malkin set up Letang before the first goal, but Letang just missed the net??

And to my next point, outside of Gaborik's wrist shot, who on this team can shoot the puck like Malkin? Nobody.

God damn, I would just like to see some creative passing and players who can shoot the puck either a) on the move or b) off one-timers.
 
You know what really sucks? Watching teams like Edmonton and the Sharks make awesome plays and score beautiful goals while our team struggles to gain the offensive zone save for a few dump-ins that are turned over right away... I wish our team could play offense.
 
The team really lacks speed and forward depth without cally and kreider in the lineup. they just can't establish a forecheck consistently game after game. Rupp is really ineffective and putting him on the 3rd line is forecheck ender every time down. They need more depth. they need more speed and skill through the lines. Halpern and Rupp need to be the least effective players on this team if they are to compete, but when your forward unit also includes ferriero, asham, bickel - that's nearly half the forward lines. And that's just going to lead to a lot of tired inconsistent play upfront. need depth.

I do not wish the Oilers past 3 years of intense mediocrity upon us.

I was complaining earlier about how I never see other teams flub passes and handling the way we do like Gabs did on that little 5 foot pass during the PP in the 3rd (I tink the 3rd).

But really this whole post is great. To be fair we never ever work the puck to the points in a meaningful way> I think Richards set up a sneaking in Girardi on the PP once last year and this year Nash has been using his D liberally but I've never seen anyone use the D that much and it likely stunted Staa'ls offensive growth. McD is still young and Girardi simply doesn't have good O ability. I think our biggest flaw on D is inability to get pucks to the net

They looked absolutely dominant in two games and beat Boston. They lost to pitt today no big deal I believe you are drastically overreacting.

Obviously as a staff they need to get the dumb penalties to stop but a lot of that is on the players it's just stupidity and they are adult professionals I refuse to use the coach to excuse them for some of these dumb penalties.

Obviously as a staff they have failed miserably to get the PP going. But the wins and successes trump this by miles.

Obviously as a fan you are overreacting and using a 7 game sample size (since you are clearly discounting the losses I'd say you are using a 4 game sample size) to discount years of sample size including last year which is natural to do but if you do it here you're going to get debated

As far as the AHL Grachev sucks in St louis too, We traded away Erixon, called up Hagelin, traded away Byers, lost Weise to waivers, lost MZA and JAM. The team got absolutely gutted mostly so the parent club could experience success. Kundratek was a mistake but part of it was likely his fault too. Valentenko had to go for the money in Russia. Blaming Torts for roster decisions and trades that gutted the whale this year is pretty lame
 
We're certainly seeing that our offensive consistency is taking a hit with Cally out and with us having to rely heavily on some young guys (Hags, Stepan and Kreider who is also out) who definitely are still developing as professionals and we are also relying on defensive specialists (Boyle). Unfortunately I do not see Stepan as offensively gifted enough to have the minutes he's getting and Hagelin's specialty is more defensive and possessive. Again I believe you make the Nash trade 1000 out of 1000 but our depth has to take that hit this year. Next year maybe we take MZA back, Hrivik is maybe not concussed, Miller may be ready, Stepan may take the next step or we may have an unforseen trade/signing. Not to mention the unknown elements like Fasth and Lindberg who may be better all around options then some of our current guys. The cap room is there and the players are in the system to fix this going forward but our depth had to struggle this year to pull off this very necassary trade.

We're spinning our wheels complaining about the depth this year though it had to be done.

Wish one of Mats or JAM could have stayed with the team or Hrivik wasn't concussed it'd be a help.

Regardless anytime you lose two of the guys you are relying on for offense (Kreider and Cally) the team has to take a big hit that's for any team in the league. Luckily we are so defensive minded we can certainly make up for it but against a top team like Pitt it should come as no surprise we lose.

What is inexcusable is the PP failing as miserably as it did and some of these short bus penalties
 
I don't really think opening up the offense is the issue here, but rather they need to improve their forecheck and puck possession game. The Rangers have actually done a decent job of utilizing the stretch pass this season. The defense is getting involved offensively and taking risks. I'm not getting the vibe that they are playing too conservatively (at least when they are playing at even strength).

But if the players can't generate anything off the rush, they struggle to maintain possession of the puck. They get beaten to loose pucks. Our forwards are doing a lousy job of protecting the puck, and accepting a pass cleanly is a foreign concept to them. You'd think these players would know how to receive a pass without turning it over.
 
Convert on a powerplay.

thats it.

CONVERT ON A GOD DAMN POWER PLAY.

That's all they need to start doing.

They start scoring on the power play other teams will not try to get away with illegal crap knowing that even if they get called, all that will happen is the Rangers will do squat for 2 minutes, and lose any and all momentum.

start scoring ont he PP and other teams think twice about going into corners hard when we get in on the forecheck..

"what if i take a penalty, i better back off here and play it safe"---> leads to puck possession.

I just can't wrap my head around us not having "horses" when we have Gaborik, Nash, Richards, and yes Cally's 30G.

I see a lack of guys given ice time that like to do the real dirty work.

There's not a team outside of Pitts that would LOVE to have our top 3. We have all the tools - they need to be sharpened.
