GDT: High Hopes: Your New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes, 12:30 PM, ABC/ESPN+

In the sense that Skjel and Pesce and others are very good defenders yes but to me a team that relies on goals from Martinook and Noesen and Staal I just don’t see it. They have Svench who is great and Aho is great. Necas is very good but he’s not great and coaching and discipline don’t make them talented. I agree they are very smart and very well coached and have a system that suits their personnel well and they have built the team well to maximize it. All that said NJ is on pace to pick top ten in the draft and Carolina barely beat them right after NJ sold off to reinforce how bad they are this season. I’m just not that impressed even if I can recognize all the stuff they do well. They also have no reserv for the playoffs. Are they going to clutch and grab and interfere to take advantage of lax reffing in the playoffs? They already do that. They aren’t going to get as many power plays so that great road power play won’t be as great. Oh and in two years they probably turn into a pumpkin when they lose a bunch of guys and only add Nikishin to replace maybe three or four of them. I wish them well this season since NJ is not going to be in the playoffs but like the Bruins they already look topped out to me. Just my thoughts .
I like the Guentzel and Kuznetsov additions. I think their goaltending is good enough but, obviously not great.

People don't realize how good Tatar was for us last regular season. I'd take his season last year over TT or Timos season this year.

Losing McLeod+Wood is huge. Our 4th line is absolute garbage without them. Tierney and Nosek suck and Bastian is not the same.
Just can't play with the same pace. Having our best transitional passing defenseman leave also didn't help but, Sevo had to go find his forever contract somewhere else.

I'm tempted to bring back Boqvist

Boqvist would be so much better than anything nosek and Tierney bring. Tierney I'm less annoyed at. Nosek is totally useless this season. At least sometimes tierney can generate something.

What's our record in division? I feel like we're total dog shit

We are. We've lost a shit ton of division games and they weren't OTLs even.

The thing with Boqvist was he wasn't the best scorer but he was great at zone entries and providing offensive pressure. He kept defenses on their toes at least.

Tierney and Nosek are garbage.

The arena environment and game today was quite fun, until the 3rd period crapfest. Looked pretty winnable game until the bad goal let in and the really bad 4 on 3. Even then the game had its moments.

Nico and Timo had a good game.

This was one of bratts least impactful game in awhile and Jack needs to get his shit together. If you are a star player with that much flair and skill you better/must score on those bring the house down plays. No excuses for him. Too many of those in the last 4 or 5 games.

agreed 100%. the thing with players like wood and boqvist, and to a lesser extent shara and tatar is even though they didn’t score a lot, their speed created a problem for defenders and our forecheck was lights out. do we even forecheck this season?

Barely forecheck. Fitz failed on the Boqvist re-sign. We could have given him a cheap deal instead of signing two extra guys (Nosek and Tierney). Don't know how they could think they through.

And you are 100% right. Its not about his points, but the offense/speed pressure he brought. We lost that with McLeod too.

The forecheck being bad isn’t really about speed.

Even when the Devils have 3 faster guys out their they rarely cause the opponent to turn it over.

The lack of engagement is more the problem. The Devils skate next to guys and then apply no pressure, last year they would get tighter and physically hassle guys, even if it was lightly.

Fitz alluded to this in his presser about canning Ruff so I think the team was coached into this worse approach, for some reason.

The lack of Brunette effect...

LOL they really don’t want Schmid to ever start against the Rangers

I understand why he's the first to go, because he's much closer to the end of his waiver exemption than Daws is. I think he's only got 7 or 8 games left, while Daws has maybe close to double that?

But this could very well be the last game Daws plays in the NHL this year if Kahkonen is here Tuesday.

Hey look! A stray Canes fan decided to "react" to your post.

Fact 16 teams are getting to play meaningful hockey and we are again left waiting for months hoping we get to play meaningful hockey is painful.
I have no worries for next season. This team has faced major stuff this season and they got pretty close.
