The Panthers are going to be good soon. I really mean that.

So were Edmonton and the Isles.

Stockpiling young talent isn't enough if you don't complement them with the right supporting cast and the right veteran leadership.

Florida definitely moving in the right direction, but I mean, it's not like they could've gotten WORSE, especially with a Penguin-esque number of top-4 picks now. Still hate to reward losing like that, but it's all about parity and artificial competition now. IMO the draft positions should be totally random each year except the SC winner shouldn't be able to pick in the top-5

Everything you say is negative - Ekblad will step in immediately and play. What are you talking about

And he'll suck. Just like his team.

He's not polished. He was brutal defensively in the WJC. His offense (instincts) are good but he's going to struggle in the NHL.

People just don't get it.

It's a weak draft. Don't buy into the hype.

I wonder how much you've actually seen him play OUTSIDE of the WJC.

It's more likely he plays in the NHL than not this season IMO. He doesn't exactly have to beat out Leetch and Niedermayer for a spot, haha

They called Hedman the next Pronger. It took five years - FIVE years - for him to become a dominant NHL dman.

Hedman was way more ahead of Ekblad.

I like Ekblad a lot. He's not an impact player at this point.

I don't buy much of his hype, either. He was a big kid beating up on little kids. Now he goes against men.

Another fan who thinks playing in the NHL means being good in the NHL.

Why would we trade a top pairing d-man on a great contract?

Hindsight being what it is...

We should have extended Stralman mid-season (thus before the hype he got in the playoffs and before EDM screwed everyone with that Nikitin contract).

If we had extended Stralman instead of Girardi, then perhaps Girardi's miserable SCF performance could've saved us some $$$.

Either way, I'd rather be at the risk of losing Girardi than Stralman, honestly.

I know I'll catch some flack for that, but I just feel that Girardi (like Staal) has already played his best hockey.

To clarify, his 5.5 cap-hit for the minutes and the role he plays is fine. It's the NMC and NTC that are KILLERS.

Bennett looks like Patty Kane lol

As usual, one of the few who understood my post.

I'm not knocking the kid long term. My point is that Florida has been rebuilding for 20 years! All the high picks and not once have draft picks made them a dominant Cup contender.

Fans drool over prospects. Yet the Rangers (with C+ graded prospects) have made the playoffs 8 of 9 years and two CF in three years.

We should be GMs.

Girardi is quite a bit better than Stralman. So you should catch a lot of flack for that.
