I would vote for Ryker Evans and Stan Svozil ahead of Lane Hutson.

Think Hutson's stats are impressive? Ryker Evans just put up 26 points in 26 games in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs.

Mateychuk should start to be considered. He 100% falls into Hutson category of being underrated due to his size. Dude is hella good

Mateychuk looks good but to my eye not any better than he did a year ago, which is a bit concerning.

Going Simachev. Not enough people have seen him play to understand what a talent he is. Hopefully he comes over soon enough to further develop in NA and I'm 100% sure a lot of heads are gonna turn.

He's 5'11" but had shown up to development camp with some added mass putting him somewhere around 200lbs already so hes no Hedman but hes also no Hutson

At this point, what are we basing our rankings on? Highest potential upside? I ask because an 18 year old like Kulich just had an excellent year in the AHL, and Luke Evangelista came right into the NHL and made an impact after an almost PPG 20 year old AHL season. Ryker Evans even, who has had a good track record but took off last season and blew the doors open in the Calder Cup playoffs as a 21 year old.

Are we banking on someone like Hutson (who's second to Eklund here currently) to defy the odds and become a top pairing D despite being quite undersized? Are people pegging his highest potential upside at a #1D?

it is a tricky situation. there are 300+ defensemen and only two top pairing D that are comparable to Hutson. The odds aren't really in his favor but people are really holding on to the chance that he will defy the odds.

Lots of the other players listed have the "chance" to become top pairing alllstar players but don't seem to get the benefit of the doubt that Hutson seems to be getting.

In the end just choose who you think is the best at that ranking and then prepare to mock people in the coming years when the players they rank highly don't become that good.

I for one will always mock the people who voted Kravstov as the 50th top prospect last year.

I assume it's who you think will end up the best. Hutson is exciting but I'm not voting for him for the same reason you aren't.

Voting Knies again.

Snuggerud
Not even the best player from his line that is still eligible

Knies looked like a 1st line NHL player on a 100+ pt team. He was our 5th best player in the playoffs - the size/skill combo is hard to ignore.

First line player? That's a stretch. He had 1 goal and 5 points in 10 games playing with 2 guys who are well over a point per game.

He is not ahead of many of the guys on this list. Including Matt Coronato who had the better college career, out produced Knies on the same line at WJC and most lists have him well above Knies in rankings.

How is Kulich still on the board after his season in the AHL?

Would be interested to hear arguments for guys like Shane Wright over him...

Its Kulich here, and Hutson is still the same player he was when he was drafted. Nothing about him has changed. Insanely talented but all the same questions still remain.

He still played and produced tons against men, unlike a Zellweger or Korchinski who only proved themselves vs 16-19 year olds so far. To me that’s a major difference.

Looked how well guys like Makar, Hughes, Fox and McAvoy transitioned coming out of ncaa to the NHL…. No I’m not saying Hutson will as good, but I’ll trust his numbers more than I would Korchinskis personally.

There’s a reason why the best junior leagues are now out of the US.

Well the question for Hutson wasn't ever his talent or ability to produce, it was his ability to play his position at his size.

On average Hockey East players are about 1.2 years older than WHL based on the numbers I saw. Not sure how one is men and one is kids unless you're speaking about the WC which I think he did show well at.

Also not clamoring for Korchinski to be taken.

When do players that are actually NHLers, like Knies and Greig, start making the cut, over guys that are still pure perceptions?
