Dickinson. He was ranked higher than 11 in the 2024 draft by a lot of people. Most people had him ranked above Sennecke.

Mateychuk again.

Can I ask what is the rational of mateychuk over zellweger?

Their 19 year old seasons were
Z:
80 points in 55 games
Playoffs 29 points in 14 games

Matey
75 points in 52 games
Playoffs 30 points in 20 games

Zellweger had 37 in 44 in ahl, and was an all star at that lvl…. Also 9 in 26 in nhl.

I actually think Dickinson should be in over zellweger/mateychuk…. But I thought Dickinson won last poll tbh.

Idk that prerank in this draft means much, because I feel like everyone and completely different drafts. A number of teams had sennecke as a top 5 player, and idk that he woulda been around past 8 if Anaheim didn’t take him… Dickinson went 11th and that’s reality 10 teams passed on him, I don’t think 10 teams were passing on sennecke

I think Dickinson is easily most complete dmen on the board and shoulda been above guys like Hutson /silayev

indeed.... this was a pre-draft consensus rank amongst 16 sources. Surprised to see Buium over Levshunov, but I do recall a few lists having Lev quite lower in the top 10.

But you can see from 3-10 the wAVG was 5.55-8.75.... practically a crapshoot

Ya you can give my vote to Dickinson if it’s close, it was early and I assumed Dickinson already won lol

Actual NHL draft order isn’t meaningless but it shouldn’t completely upend the consensus from before the draft IMO.

Nine teams passed on Dickinson… but nine teams also passed on Silayev and he just got voted in. Eleven teams passed on Buium and he got voted in. I had Dickinson 7th on my pre-draft list and Sennecke 8th—just because Anaheim selected him 3rd doesn’t mean he’s done anything to change how I had them ranked. Iginla and Yakemchuk were also selected before Dickinson despite being behind him on my personal list.

Well you won’t find argument from me on Dickinson/silayev…. I’d prefer Dickinson.

My point was more that the prerank drafts were all over the place…. Some teams had guys in top 5 while other teams had same guy 10+. A guy like buium went 13th, but for me he ends up top dmen in draft

its why I think we'll see a slew of 2024 picks coming here after 3 in a row already

In my above post (consensus rankings from 16 sources) you can see from Buium to Silayev (8 players), their average ranking was only separated by 3 spots (5.55-8.75)

Going to go with the CHL defender of the year who holds the record for goals as a 16 year old and is only the 2nd defenseman in OHL history to score 30+ in their draft season.

It's easy for me to envision Mateychuk as a #2D in the NHL, or maybe even a Forsling type #1. I don't see that for Sam Dickinson, who lacks the creativity and deception. His playstyle most reminds me of Darnell Nurse. If he can be more a refined version of that then I still expect Dickinson to be a valuable player and I'd like to vote for him soon, but I think top pair outcomes are less likely for him.

Somewhat similar production and outstanding playdriving ability but for me they're not in the same category because of how different their physical builds are. Zellweger is small enough where I do wonder how long his career might be (same with Hutson). Mateychuk is built like a tank. He can win going shoulder to shoulder in the corners.

Dickinson gets the "Intangibles" vote. He's a winner and a leader and that's hard to vote against.

Any of Reinbacher, Dickinson, or Catton is good with me here. Voted Reinbacher.

In what world was that?
The real world
Go look for yourself. The consolidated draft rankings that took an average of all players had Parekh ahead. Many scouts had him ahead of Buium. Everyone will have him ranked well above Reinbacher.

All rankings were an absolute blender this year. There was no such consensus.
