He got 2 assists in 2 games at the end of the season. Hutson is a great prospect but tons of prospects do that every year near the end of the season. Remember Poehling?
I do remember, people were way too high on him right from the start. He also didn't have anywhere near the talent that Hutson does, and was outscored at the NCAA level by him by over 50% twice at the same ages.

He was never anywhere near our top prospect, and I was always heavily critical of those rating him as such. Hutson will certainly have to work on his defense and his strength, but his offense has already shown to be translatable.

Hutson isn't even the best option on his own team.
Hutson is a better prospect than Reinbacher.

I’d take Reinbacher over Hutson pretty comfortably

That's fair, depends what you're looking for out of a defenseman. I think Reinbacher has the tools but I don't think his IQ is in the same stratosphere as Hutson's. They'll be a good pair in the future, but I think they'll be more like a lite version of Keith-Seabrook where Keith is the more valuable player.

I still think it’s too early for either… I think Clarke, buium and edvinsson should go before them (Reinbacher could be in that conversation)

Another year, another Lane Hutson hyping/bashing fest.

To be fair, hes more than proven himself in the best non-pro league on the planet over 2 seasons now, putting up similar/better numbers as Makar at the same age. He didnt just do well, he flat out dominated, and that does say something significant. He was also Team USA's #1 Dman playing the most minutes, so he isnt just a PP specialist as some may think. I mean his skill/agility alone in this poll is top 10 to me.

Is his size a concern? of course, although hes up to 5'10 now, just need to add the pounds.

Defense? yeah probably, and time will tell. You can be smallish and still play a sound defensive game believe it or not. See Jarred Spurgeon or Quinn Hughes after 2 years in the NHL.

Should he go soon in these polls? Personally, Im not putting him in the next 5 or so, I definitely have guys like Buium and Clarke ahead..... But lets take a guy like Parekh for comparison. Parekh is bigger, sure, but to me Hutson has proved more in a much tougher league. I would lean Hutson between the two personally.

Hutson is getting the most homer votes, though, no doubt. But I feel somewhere many may underrate him and Demidov BECAUSE of the hype in Montreal. Thats kind of unfair too.

Why is Nazar on here and has a vote?

There's people who have scored better than him in the AHL not even an option.

I voted Clarke again but it's just going to be influenced by the big market fans here. I just don't think Hutson/Edvinsson are the next best 2 defensive prospects in the entire NHL. I mean Hutson is praised for his offense, Buium just outscored him in the same league being 2 years younger (and bigger) and Clarke was just point/game in the AHL being 1 year older yet bigger. In what world can someone vote Hutson over Buium? What's the reasoning?

Hutson scored 48 pts in 39 NCAA games in his d+1 year.
Buium scored 50 pts in 42 NCAA games in his draft year but also played on a much more offensively stacked team.

Hutson's team scored 154 goals, so Hutson participated in 31.2% of their offence.
Buium's team scored 202 goals, so Buium participated in 24.7% of their offence.

If Buium had participated in 31.2% of his team's offence like Hutson, he would have scored 63 pts, which is 13 more pts than what he actually did.

Hutson looking that good in 2 NHL games is worth something.

He got 2 assists in 2 games at the end of the season. Hutson is a great prospect but tons of prospects do that every year near the end of the season. Remember Poehling?

What was impressive about Hutson's 2 NHL games isn't the fact that he scored 2 pts. It's how good he looked overall, the amount of offence he created, how seamlessly his play style translated to the NHL, and how his 2 weaknesses (size and skating) were not an issue.

As good as any arguments in this thread

You called him overrated which is absolutly crazy talks IMO, considering he absolutly torched his league, kicked ass on the international stage and has two points in two games on the NHL

His floor is Tony DeAngelo but His ceiling is Adam Fox and as of now, he's showing he's more like the latter than the former

You prefer Reinbacher? Really?
I think Reinbacher is going to be a good defenseman, but Hutson has a X Factor that Reinbacher can only dream of

Hutson is 100% a top 10 prospect

Adam Fox is elite defensively. Lane Hutson has 0 chance of ever reaching that defensive impact

As of right now he hasn't shown Spurgeons tenacity and grit to outwill bigger opponents and hasn't show the Skating speed of Quinn Hughes. I also believe Fox is better at defense.

Perhaps Hutsons unique style will work in the NHL but there is nobody to compare him to.

I think the problem with picking Hutson here is that there are still a lot of players with great upside potential with a ton of accolades who have fewer questions about how their game will translate at the NHL level. Guys like Yurov, Silayev, Lambert, Edvinsson, Buium, Clarke, Wright, Mateychuk etc. all are really impressive like Hutson is and from what I've seen and read have higher chances of making it in the NHL than Hutson does. It's hard for me to justify voting Hutson over someone like Zellweger, who is also very good in his own right and has a similar profile (and currently has 0 votes as of this post).

Not at the NHL level he's not lol.

This is about like the people who were bellowing that Nils Lundkvist was a similar level prospect as Seider when they both played in the SHL.
Yeah better point to that rather than the plethora of smaller defensemen who have been succeeding in the NHL lately.

Thus is about like the people who were bellowing that Dante Fabbro was a similar level prospect as Hughes when they both played in the NCAA.

Maybe not at Fox extent but Fox is like a top 4 defenseman in the league, so Hutson getting anywhere close to Fox is AT LEAST worthy of the 10th best prospect

I'm actually not one to overate our prospects much , but i think hutson is special , i don't see why habs fans need to defend him so much tho , the kids play will speak for him , I don't think we will need to wait long to see it either. So save up that ammo boys

No one is saying he’s not good or not special…. Just dmen on the list still that I’d easily pick over him. He’s likely going to be pretty 1 dimensional at the nhl lvl…. And any added + on the d side is a huge + for him.

And if you throw Hutson on the list you prob got to throw guys like Clarke/zellweger in there pretty closely. Clarke/zellweger have dominated every league theyve been in.

If you like Hutson you should love buium

Guys like edvinsson and Reinbacher are the ones that truely get underrated.

Well this is about projecting, not what theyve shown so far. Its not like Hutson or ANY prospect for that matter cant improve certain aspects of their game after they make the NHL.

Aug 2019 this board voted Adam Fox 39th best prospect. Guess what? He got better. Now a Norris candidate.

Quinn Hughes was criticized quite a bit after his poor sophmore season. Many calling him just another Torey Krug type offensive Dman who cant defend for shit..... Guess what? he got better too.

I mean, again, hes already proved himself in NCAA, the same league that Makar and Fox dominated at the same age. What else do you want him to do? He wont stay at 165 lbs into his mid 20s. If he gets close to 175-180 lbs, I think his ceiling is quite high.

So why Hutson over buium tho?

To me Hutson had a lot more question marks than buium at the same age, buium has been just as if not more dominant…. Buium has a better defensive game to start with, and an overall better physical build. I

Except, again.

Fox is elite defensively.

Hutson will never get anywhere close to that level defensively.

You could use that "if he hits his ceiling" logic with any prospect you want to jack them up.

Fox of today is not the same Fox in college. He got significantly better defensively once getting to New York.
Lane Hutson will never be a high level defensive asset in the NHL. And that's okay

Ya'll sleeping on Edvinsson.
If NHL GMs could add one of these guys to their team it’s him but Hutson and Zellweger are still getting votes because hfboards votes based on how they perform in junior when they should be voting on how they project in the NHL.

Again, I don't expect him to be. I've said numerous times in the thread that I prefer Buium to him.

That being said, if you'd told people on these boards when Fox was in college that he'd turn out to be elite defensively, you'd have been laughed off the boards.

Not me..... thats for sure. Been voting Buium since Levshunov went. I wouldnt take him over Clarke right now either.

Id have him around a Parekh or Zellwegger, though, I feel Hutson is much more proven than Parekh. Hes peculiar for sure because of the size, but his skill is top elite in this poll.

Ceiling is very high, floor is a PP specialist. He'll never just lose that skill, and he'll adapt when the time comes. Its all a question of IQ in the end.... but hes a defininte NHLer to me.

To be fair Hutson performed well in college not junior

zellweger had a really good season in a pro league this year on a bad gulls, and was averaging 21+ mins a night in his 22 game run with Anaheim to end the season and didn’t look out of place

I’d say zellweger was more impressive than edvinsson at AHL lvl while being much younger, id put edvinsson before both guys, because i like his 2way floor higher... but your underseeling hutson/zellweger

no no, hes not in my next 5 either.... was responding to "Hutson isnt as good as Fox or Spurgeon defensively, and not as good a sktaer as Quinn".

I was saying well no, but then back in 2019 no one thought Adam Fox was going to be as good as he is now either. Its all a question of how these "small skilled Dmen" adapt. And he may not for all we know.... But again, proving yourself as the top Dman in NCAA 2 years in row is quite special in my book. If it wasnt NCAA, and say it was the WHL or QMJHL I probably wouldnt be as high on him.
