  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

If we're going to go there, you could adopt me as a Chinese refugee. The country my ancestors fought and died for is basically nonexistent now. We're just allowed to compete in international sports as "Chinese Taipei" and such.

...OK, but just a fair warning; Nova Scotia Summer is basically a Northern Florida Winter...and Winter in Northern NS is basically just John Carpenter's THE THING without the shape-shifting alien (hopefully), so Be Prepared!!... :biglaugh::thumbu::biglaugh:

...oh, and EVERYONE here is of Celtic ancestory, so prepare yourself for the PALE-EST people in North America...:biglaugh::amazed::biglaugh:

My ancestry is Chinese. I don't know what you're talking about. :P

Also, I was born and raised in Arizona, thanks to my Chinese grandfather running away from the Chinese civil war/second Sino-Japanese war to the United States. We don't know much other than hot weather (and often humid since we come from the province of Fujian). A large portion of the world's population doesn't give much of a hoot about this "daylight savings time" thing either. We come from nearer to the equator. You can pretend like cold weather and snow is "okay" all you want, but millennia of history describes people trying to get away from it. :P

...which is why I'll never leave here...been all around the World when I was in the military and I've discovered one very important thing; if the cold & snow keeps the vast amount of the idiots of Society away, all the more reason to stay... :thumbu:

The military decided that I was unfit for service, and that was after trying to enlist voluntarily. My country doesn't even have a draft (and if we did I'd be immune due to being female). Apparently I was too blind for service. My vision is actually just fine with contact lenses (or maybe it's not, if you will, since I went on to be a hockey official after being medically disqualified from military service because of my uncorrected vision). I see at 20/40 with my contact lenses.

I love the crisp, refreshing, cool air, up here in Canada...............I couldn't live without it.....

I hate being hot but most people would choose the warmer climate..........I know people where i live that are snowbirds that go to Florida and Texas every winter............

Yeah, I know. I've made no indication about me being "medically blind" (according to the US military) and still pursuing a career as an on-ice official. :P

The problem with officiating in general, according to NHL fans, starts from the ground up though. We're taught "game management" in our second year, and that permeates to the NHL level. NHL referees manage the game according to their instructions. I think they do a great job of it. If your problem with officiating is that you object to the "game management" philosophy of officiating, well, it's easy enough to attack the top, but that's not where you should be focusing your efforts. USA Hockey and Hockey Canada teach it from the ground up, and that's where pretty much all NHL officials come from.

I'm obviously biased, but my underlying philosophy in life, being an Arizona (Phoenix) native is that winter sports are awesome, but you just go somewhere else to do it, then come home to your relatively warm climate afterwards. You can always go not that far north to a ski resort on a day trip, and be home by night. Likewise, hockey is an awesome "winter" sport, but you can do it all indoors on artificially-frozen ice rinks, year round, and escape the "harsh cold" (lulz) of the ice rink by going back outside into 115F degree July heat. You don't need to live there to participate in it. It's kind of bunk in that regard. I'd also probably dump some tea into a harbor if I had to live there myself. :sarcasm:

...I try to reserve my "officiating issues" for here...my oldest grandson (he's 10) plays nets on our regional U-11 team...I don't give those poor kids that ref these games a hard time, despite the fact that "game management" to them is calling everything on the winning team and nothing on the losing team "to balance things out"...I do, however, miss the "Old Days" where a penalty was just a penalty & was called no matter the score or how the game was leaning... :thumbu:

Could be worse.... we get the Ducks on Thursday.

Being both a Jets and a Rangers fan is going to be tough tonight. I'm going to the game and I absolutely want the Jets to win to keep up in the top of the league, but I also want to see the Rangers turn things around. So I definitely want the game to go to overtime at the very least. As for goals, this is where it really sucks for me. I want to see a lot of great goals by my various favorite players, however I also somehow want both Shesty and Helle to get shutouts.

Sigh.
