Two coaches who come to mind we can thank for this are Jon Cooper and Patrick Roy. Cooper likes to be very aggressive about when he pulls the goalie, and I think Patrick Roy once concluded that the best time to pull your goalie was with 10 minutes left.

It makes sense, especially if teams need wins for playoff positions. Losing by 2 or 3 instead of 1 doesn't hurt you in the standings until you get deep into tie-breakers.

The Blues being the Blues.........That franchise personifies midddling like no other........

Since i've been following (1986 almost 40 years) they've passed the seond round only 4 times but only missed the playoffs 8 times.....

* Lost the play-in in 2020 if i'm not mistaken......
