Intent on a stick penalty, unnecessary roughness, and a few other things can all result in a double minor. Blood just makes the call easy
A double minor is assessed for an act deemed more egregious than a minor and specific to certain penalties. Head-butting, spearing, butt-ending, or high sticking that results in blood are penalties that earn double minor status.

There was no intent on the high stick…hard to see blood.

No ref saw enough to call a double. So it was after review?

Again…all seems sketchy.

Zary is so far and away the Flames best player. Homerun of a draft pick in which they moved down and it actually worked out.

You intend to argue that was not a clear double minor?

Also included are intentional stick penalties. So if it looks deliberate, with or without blood, the refs can call a double minor.

Chucky!!!!

It was so clear that it had to be reviewed.

I’d love to hear the refs explanation.

Many assuming that ref saw blood

Another guy says you don’t need blood.

It should be explained so we actually know what the refs saw and thought.

Instead we have to wonder.

You don't need blood. I'm not another guy, just explaining the rule.

Like if you were a wimp and afraid of being hit and swung your stick in self-defense like Nylander.
And a guy who preaches about the rule says he’s not watching the game but likes this post.

Now I know who I’m talking to. Pointless to have a reasonable talk lol
