Seems like the Rangers have made and intend to continue to make flushes of malcontents. Obviously, that's going to totally screw up their on-ice chemistry, but in the long term it is probably worth it to cut out all the cancer as quickly as possible.

Rangers aren't winning the Cup this season anyway so good time for the overhaul. Better to screw up this season than this season and next.

Whether Lav still is a quality coach is a different issue entirely. If you're doing a mid-season overhaul, he might be as good as anybody else available.
