sometimes this team makes no sense, missing the best goal scorer in the game and their PP goes nuclear

They stopped over thinking trying to set up Matthews for highlight reel plays and are just trying to get the puck to the net because there is no designated shooter

Adding on to that, missing the primary threat on your PP, and your team switching up your PP as a result, makes it so other teams don't really know what to expect. Since their footage training for their PK would have been focused on Matthews, but with him gone the footage is no longer as relevant. So your team's PP is more surprising. Probably similar to an unknown back-up goalie doing really well to start.
