Man, Sportsnet said the Oiler’s have the 3rd worst PK through 14 games, ever.

That’s pretty rough, but weird, arbitrary sample size. I’m sure as McDavid gets healthy and special teams get on track, they’ll be fine.
They lost a lot of good depth pkers, it’ll take time to get the system flowing again with new guys.

He makes 3.9, he should get a bump to the 5-6 million range on a bridge deal but that walks him right out the door as a UFA. Long term you likely don’t risk anything over 7.5 with his CURRENT play
He kinda reminds me of John Carlson who could be a knucklehead defensively when he was younger. But his offense offset it, and then he improved.

If his offense doesn’t regress too far, he’ll get well over 8M after the bridge (however they handle that). It’s not his fault that Nurse fleeced the org.

Biggest issue is how well Ekholm covers for him defensively. You potentially have Nurse at 9.25 and Bouchard at 11.0 but both need a strong defensive partner. You can’t have two highly paid defenders that need cheap but good partners. Nurse is nearly unmovable, so do you sell Bouchard off while he still has high value?

Nurse is unlikely to get any better, Bouchard can provide good offense so you don’t want to try and switch him into a more defensive role.

Yea, and they can’t really plan on Ekholm being around much longer.

If only they had a promising, cost controlled guy with top 4 potential. Let’s call him Blewit Goneberg. lol

Broberg was disgruntled, he was likely gone one way or another. St Louis just expedited it.

Man if the Oilers give Bouchard a long term $11 million contract they’re going to relive the whole Nurse thing all over again.
Maybe the blessing is that his play so far this year will make them think twice about that contract.

Cmon now this is the Oilers we're talking about.
He has the patented BOUCH BOMB!

He's also their only dman that can consistently complete an above average outlet pass and doesn't shit his hockey pants on the offensive blueline.
