Signing mid-season, it's almost certainly for the minimum.
 
For those not watching the Wings-Kraken game, Jaden Schwartz threw his stick to break up a pass in his own end, which the ref somehow did not call. Kraken go the other way and score a goal.

bergeron wasnt nearly the offensive player that matthews and marner are. bergeron is also probably the greatest defensive forward ever. the threat of an offensive player on the PK is overrated as well. top forwards these days contribute very little statistically while short handed. matthews has apparently never had a short handed point according to nhl.com.

It just takes one team desperate for depth willing to pay him more to drive the price up

Some of the “all I care about is another cup” guys do in fact still care about money/tie their pride to their price probably lol.
 
Terrible missed call, throwing the stick to break up a 2 on 1 one-timer should be automatic penalty shot by the rules, no call and the puck goes the other way for a Kraken goal.

That one is shameful.
 
Ghost shouldn’t be caught like that but holy cow that might be the worst missed call I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it can get any more blatant than that

Well his work ethic, skating and tenacious play and forecheck is what am talking about. He is the type of guy that we needed both for regular season and playoffs. Canucks seem to have improved a lot with Bluegar, Suter, Lafferty and Hoglander in their bottom 6 compared to last year. I don't see any pylons here and all those additions are good defensively.
 
Capitals and Penguins are going to be playing Pattycakes being the two worst teams in the Metro.

Usually don’t complain about the reefs but wow that’s a bad non call.
 
Soucy with a suicide pass but that Preds player also ran some pretty obvious interference afterwards, weird sequence

You said “that’s what 3rd and 4th liners are for”

I’m saying that’s not how it works. Not all players are created equal. Bergeron was still Bostons number 1 center and a go to guy on offense. As was/is Marchand on the wing.
