I’m not saying it’s the wrong call. They probably should’ve got the full 5 too. Just Helleson isn’t really a dirty player. It happens and I’m sure he doesn’t feel great about it.

What do you mean no possibility of getting anything but leg? They are like inches apart and it looks like Zary makes a move at the last second to try and deke to the inside that brings their legs together hard.

A lot of the same fans calling that hit dirty, were complaining when Canada was being called for them in the WJC. It's not an intentional kneeing or anything dirty. Helleson is set in his path and Zary attempts to side step at the last moment. The result is knee on knee contact. Hate to see any down hurt like that and hopefully won't be as serious as it looked.
I doubt he was trying to avoid the hit. He was trying to go around the defenseman and get a scoring chance.

It was a stupid move by the defenseman. No need to try and throw a hit, Just cut off his lane and knock him off the puck.

So…. Avoid the hit. The defenseman stood him up and Zary tried ducking around. Unfortunate result. Hope he’s okay, loved watching him the past season+
He was trying to deke the defenseman. He probably had no idea he was going to try to throw a hit. And it was obvious well before contact that he wasn't going to make a good hit.
Are players not allowed to deke anymore?

Zary knew exactly what the defensemen was trying to do. Guy was going for a hit to separate Zary from the puck. Again unfortunate result. I didn’t see him deliberately stick a leg out last second. It’s a physical game. This stuff happens. Just hope Zary is okay.
There most certainly was, he was trying to move his outside leg to the inside of the defenseman to get around him.
Why stop there, how about no hitting, just a bunch of guys skating around cutting off lanes. So soft.

But when you are cheering for Canada in the WJC and one of their players makes similar contact on a player who doesn't even have the puck, you are saying "not a penalty".
Helleson literally did cut off his lane and try to knock him off the puck. Zary tried to get around him and they collided leg on leg, it happens.

Hopefully Carlsson would be smart enough to not leave his knee behind when trying to deke a player.
The Ducks player doesnt change the location or direction of his knee, his line was consistent the whole time until Zary cut right.
